This is my most favorite black and white quilt design to date: It is called Yin and Yang, which I designed for Michael Miller Fabrics super fun fabrics. I called it Yin and Yang because of the contrast between the very geometric lines of the blocks and the floral, free-spirit look of the border fabric. The quilt measures 52" x 62" and the blocks finish at 10". This one-block quilt pattern can be downloaded for free from Michael Miller Fabrics' website: under "Get Inspired", choose Free … [Read more...] about Yin and Yang Quilt – free pattern

Fat-Quarter Quilts
Happy Tuesday, everyone! Last night, when I finally had a chance to put my feet up I grabbed Martingale's "Stashtastic! 12 Patterns for Fat-Quarter Quilts" by Doug Leko and read it cover to cover. I love his designs! Doug's passion for quilting, his creativity, and love of colors are manifested in each pattern twice as the designs are presented in two colorways. He has been quilting since he was 6-years-old and designing and selling his patterns since he was 14 - his mom is … [Read more...] about Fat-Quarter Quilts
Cozy Quilts
This is the second night in a row I woke up at 2:50 am exactly and could not go back to sleep. Forget counting sheep - it stopped working for me a long time ago. So, after a few minutes of repeating mantras in English and Portuguese (Hey, why not?) I gave up and got up. I was nice to myself because I have a cold: herbal tea, Cold-Eeze drops, flannel quilt. I worked for a few hours designing quilts for a client, then began perusing my stack of new quilt books. I grabbed Martingale's Kansas … [Read more...] about Cozy Quilts
Starry Eve Quilt
I just got "Starry Eve" back from the publisher! It is my Christmas quilt design published in the Winter 2007 of Quilter's World Magazine by Annie's Publishing. Starry Eve measures 46-1/2" x 60-1/2" making it a great lap quilt. One block set on-point is all it takes and this beautiful quilt is ready in no time at all. Oh, but take a closer look at three of the fun Christmas fabrics I used from the North Pole After Dark collection by Dear Stella Fabrics: Look at this Santa in … [Read more...] about Starry Eve Quilt
Log Cabin Variations – Quilt 2
This is my second pattern published in the book Log Cabin Variations by Annie's Publishing. It is called Albuquerque for its Southwestern look. The fabrics are from the Timeless Treasures New Java Blenders collection which has 25 beautiful colors. These are the ones I used: Lucious, right? The marbled texture is amazing on the quilt blocks giving them depth and interest. My friend Lisa let me quilt it on her long arm machine and I kept the motifs simple. Log cabin blocks are so fun … [Read more...] about Log Cabin Variations – Quilt 2
