Here’s my easy Christmas Trees and Stars quilt to freshen up your holiday decor. Make a few as gifts for your family and friends!

Happy Mail! I just received my quilt, Festive Firs, back with a copy of the Winter 2026 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting magazine. This quilt is perfect for confident beginner quilters; I can’t wait to see all the different versions you’ll make!
Festive Firs measures 59-1/2″ x 70-3/4″, and the blocks finish at 10″. I worked with Mary Jane Carey’s Nordic Holiday Village fabric collection for Henry Glass Fabrics, which is already in quilt stores.
Festive Firs would also look fantastic with fabrics from your stash! Here are a few colorways to consider, using many shades of these colors in each quilt: blue/silver/gray, red/green, and red/green/pink.

There are a few ways to make this tree, but I chose this one. The half-square triangles come together fast with the 8-at-a-time method.
A tree with graduating greens would look so cool in this Christmas Trees and Stars quilt! Or, if you want it to go even faster, cut out tree shapes from green prints and fuse them to 10-1/2″ background squares. Add the trunk and machine-appliqué everything.

I hand-bind my quilts while listening to an audiobook. If I need to finish a smaller project fast, then I machine-bind it. Either way, it is celebration time when I finally have the binding stitched, and I am ready to begin the next project.
Quilts for the Holiday season are my favorites to design. If you would like to see some of my free Holiday quilt patterns, click here to go to the blog post and follow the links to download the instructions.

If you have attended one of my workshops or lectures, you heard me say I love using stripes in narrow borders, particularly right next to the binding. In fact, I stack borders and often sandwich a wider border between two narrow, striped borders. So fun!
Notice the background fabric isn’t solid. The tone-on-tone background and little stars added the perfect texture to this project. The motif Denise Cornett (@southernquilts) quilted on Festive Firs is called Christmas Star by Anne Bright.

The negative space gives this design a modern vibe. To enlarge the quilt, add a few more borders around the center.
Make extra blocks and turn them into pillows with an envelope backing to complete the Christmas decor. Another idea: make an extra row and turn it into a table runner!

The Winter 2026 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting magazine hits the stands today. Get a copy to see the Festive Firs pattern and the other beautiful quilts featured inside.
Have a great weekend!
