“Woven Together” is my quilt pattern using the Timeless Treasures newest batik line called Tonga United. I really love how it came out… When I designed it I was looking for a way to express the brightness of our country and the fact that we are all linked together by values, friendship, and a sense of belonging wherever we live. I hope all accomplished it all with the quilt blocks I chose!
The quilt measures 65″ x 85″ and the blocks finish at 10″. It is perfect for a graduating senior, a family member who is in the military, or for anyone who enjoys these colors. Spruce up your home decor with it, or take it to the picnic after the Fourth of July Parade.
No doubt the beautiful batiks from the Tonga United collection provided amazing inspiration for this design. Here are some of the ones I used:
Look at those textures! I used more fabrics but these should give you a good idea. I have loads of batiks in my studio because I am partial to them. Look at Spring Fest, for instance, and Smocking, or search ‘batiks’ on this blog and you will understand how I feel about them.
To be sure, you do not need to use batiks as I did: novelty or solids, traditional or modern fabrics… Just keep the red white (or cream for a vintage look) and blue colorway.
Use many reds and blues and keep the value of the fabrics the same for a similar effect to mine, or use darks, mediums, and lights. When you use different values of the main colors, you are adding dimension to the final quilt!
I am also selling it wholesale so if you want your favorite quilt store to carry it, just ask them to contact me.
What I like about this Star quilt block is it adds so much movement to the quilt design! It is one of the features I try to incorporate in my creations, made easy because I use the EQ8 software (can’t live without it!). By rotating and alternating the block orientation, the center square goes up and down. Yeah, like life…
The stitch and flip method makes quick work of this block… and you can make it super scrappy, too. I would keep the background fabric the same value throughout, though.
I had a blast designing this Patriotic quilt pattern and I know it will not be the only one. Woven Together would work well for beginner quilters, and you can make two Star blocks and two alternate blocks to create a small quilt as a table topper or wall hanging.
Be sure to send me a photo of your project when you make it so I can share it here.
Have a fantastic day!
