This is “Atop the Barn“, my latest quilt pattern available on Annie’s Craft Store. It is a fun and easy pattern, great for a lap quilt or a twin bed.
The quilt measures 60″ x 84″ and the blocks finish at 12″. Atop the Barn can be done in one day because the blocks are simple to put together, a perfect pattern for a quick gift or a charity quilt.
I love the quilting motif that Melissa from Sew Shabby Quilting chose for this quilt. It goes so well with the Toys 3 fabric collection from Riley Blake Designs – beautiful 1930s reproduction fabrics which they graciously provided for this project.
These are some of the fabrics I used and are my favorites! The ‘Diamond in the Square’ blocks are ideal to showcase our favorite fabrics or those preferred by the recipient of the quilt. For this reason, Atop the Barn can be customized for boys or girls, and can also be made for men if you change the background color to a gray, for instance, and use theme fabrics for the large blocks (fishing, hunting, books, plaids, etc.).
Before I go: remember the Paint Chips quilt pattern? Well, there is a booboo in the cutting instructions. The wide strips of fabric must be cut at 8-1/4″ and not 8-1/2″. Dang.
