Just finished this table topper made with batiks, except for one fabric (I wonder if you can figure which one it is!). I had a few 60 degree triangles - cut from stratas - leftover from a quilt I made last year. When I saw those triangles today I just had to make something with them. This table topper is another example of a self-binding project: place quilt top right side up onto batting (cut to the exact measurements and shape of quilt top), put backing onto quilt top (right sides … [Read more...] about Batik table topper
Playing with colors but not with fabric!
Today was canning day. In the morning I prepared Christmas Pepper Jelly from the book Putting Up by Steve Dowdney (I found it here). The ingredients are pictured above, but I ended up doubling the recipe and instead of using red pepper flakes I used one quarter of a hot pepper (don't ask me which one - I just know it was red, the size of one of the green peppers above!). It came out delicious, with a hint of pepper as opposed to super hot as I think it would have turned out had I used 2 … [Read more...] about Playing with colors but not with fabric!
Sofia’s quilt
Lee Anne was six months into her pregnancy when Sofia was born. Sofia and her family spent the next six months at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City until the baby was strong enough to go home. Surgeries, set backs, prayers... Sofia is a tiny miracle girl, and this quilt is for her. This 28.5" x 24" wall hanging also showcases Anni Down's "My Favorite Things" for Henry Glass (see my previous post for the first quilt using same fabric line). I love the subtle hues of blue, pink, … [Read more...] about Sofia’s quilt
A new wall hanging
Just this morning I finished this wall hanging featuring Anni Down's "My Favorite Things" line for Henry Glass & Co. I cut the pictures and reassembled them, only including in the quilt 'my' favorite things in life... This wall hanging measures 29.5" x 26" and it is quilted with an overall motif of... doodles, I guess. For the quilting I used Isacord embroidery thread (polyester), on both top thread and bobbin. It was easy to quilt as it is a small quilt. I added three hanging loops to the … [Read more...] about A new wall hanging
Embroidery patterns
I was looking through my books in search of embroidery patterns when I came across two books my mother brought from Brazil in April. The patterns are for baby clothes; some have tiny applique and embroidery, many just embroidery. I am so glad my sister is not using them right now (my mom had originally given them to my sister, who agreed to let me keep them for a while...)! Look at the date when she purchased this one (remember - month/day/year): This is the other book she … [Read more...] about Embroidery patterns
Cooking camp?
This afternoon, as my 12-year-old son Ryan and I were together in the house, I realized it would be a good opportunity to teach him how to prepare our dinner. First, he put chicken breasts in the crock pot, mixed cream of chicken soup with Ranch dressing mix and 1 teaspoon of pesto sauce (yes, I made it up as we went along), poured it over the chicken, and turned the pot on. Next, I wanted vegetable soup. We got a zucchini from the front yard (OMG! Who planted zucchini in front of the rose … [Read more...] about Cooking camp?
