Lee Anne was six months into her pregnancy when Sofia was born. Sofia and her family spent the next six months at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City until the baby was strong enough to go home. Surgeries, set backs, prayers… Sofia is a tiny miracle girl, and this quilt is for her.
This 28.5″ x 24″ wall hanging also showcases Anni Down’s “My Favorite Things” for Henry Glass (see my previous post for the first quilt using same fabric line). I love the subtle hues of blue, pink, green… and the block I chose is simple yet one of my favorites.
I quilted it using Isacord polyester embroidery thread, which I am growing to enjoy for quilting. It does not break easily, its weight is well-suited for intricate motifs and, most of all, my Bernina likes it!
The pink and green borders, as well as the beige squares feature stipple quilting, and the blue border was quilted with doodles. I always attach the binding to the front of the quilts, and finish them by hand using matching thread, although lately I have been stitching them with hand quilting thread.
It is sort of cloudy today but I think you can see the pale colors well. I have never met Sofia (she is my friend’s niece) but I thought about her the whole time I was piecing and quilting this project: “You can make it, Sofia, hang in there…”
Anyway, I guess this has been “Anni Down’s” week at my studio.
The other projects I finished will be displayed here in September – this is all I can say right now!
Have a wonderful Monday!
