Star quilt pattern for beginners

Autumn Sky – purchase pattern here

Today, I am launching the Autumn Sky quilt pattern! The quilt measures 54″ x 66″ and the blocks finish at 12″. It is perfect for beginners as you will only be making half-square triangles.

For this sample, I used batiks from the Fur and Forest collection by Lumin Fabrics. I love the colors of fall, leaves, and forest creatures and animal prints featured in the collection! Of course, you know I also love working with batiks.

This block is so versatile! I varied the placement of dark and light fabrics, hoping for the highest contrast (with only one exception, but I could not help myself!).

Work with prints as I did, or use solids. The secondary design (between the stars) will pop if you use a dark background fabric and lighter fabrics on the star bursts. Add geometric fabrics and it would make quite a modern statement!

The square at the center of the stars is ideal for displaying large prints, so the possibilities are endless. You can turn it into a child’s quilt by placing their favorite animals or toys in the squares. If this quilt willgrace the sunroom, it could feature flowers in the centers and all sorts of greens on the star legs.

You will make blocks with 5 different colorways, then alternate them as you lay out the 5 rows. If you decide to raid your fabric stash and make it super scrappy, all blocks might be made with different colors. For a more harmonious look, make all the dark star legs of one fabric, and the light ones of another, varying only the center and the star bursts.

This Star quilt pattern for beginners is easy to follow with diagrams explaining every step of assembly. You can download it immediately by going to my Etsy store, PiecedBrain. It is also available for wholesale, so ask your favorite quilt store to contact me.

I am running out of room to store quilts after all these years of quilt-making, so I also listed Autumn Sky for sale in my Etsy Store. If you need a gift for a loved one NOW, hurry to the store because this is the only one of its kind.

Here is another fall quilt I designed – it works as a wall hanging or throw, can be customized with your favorite fabrics, and is a fast project. You can download the magazine by going to the American Quilter’s Society website.

This is my inspiration for you for today. Happy Sewing!
