My knitted afghan has one more block. This one, knitted on the diagonal, has some great stitches (basket weave, bud stitch, embossed heart, cornflower, don't know the name of the last one). I am not too comfortable with short rows yet, which I worked on when doing the bottom left and top right corners of the block, but I am sure I will have the opportunity to work with them again soon. The embossed hearts turned out so cool, don't you think? I want to come up with other projects on which to … [Read more...] about Knitted diagonal block

Marking your project for quilting
There are many ways to mark your quilt when you are ready to quilt it. If I am coming up with my own free hand design, I often use Pilot FriXion erasable pens. Long awaited finish

I chose to quilt each row with a different background motif after I outlined all the appliqued shapes (outline done using monofilament), and decided on each motif as I came to the rows (why plan, right?...). In my haste to mail it to California, I took pictures of parts of the quilt and have … [Read more...] about Long awaited finish
Christmas projects book
I made this Christmas wall hanging a few years ago, borrowing blocks from different books to assemble a quilt which brought together the symbols of the season that most speak to me. Stars appear on all the blocks purposedly. Notice the block on the top left corner: its name is Mother & Child and it was featured on page 73 of the book Quilt a Colorful Christmas, edited by Jeanne Stauffer and Sandra L. Hatch (I found it here). The Christmas tree is on page 143, and it was originally meant to … [Read more...] about Christmas projects book
