Today I turned a wool applique' block I made last year into a tote. First, I surrounded it with borders using same wool from the applique', then I used its background fabric for the back, bottom, and sides of tote. It measures 19" x 17", with lots of room for books, a tablet, wallet, etc. I framed the center block by couching two strands of colorful yarn. Instead of batting, I used ByAnnie Soft and Stable (I found it here) which gives body to the bag. However, I am not sure you can quilt … [Read more...] about Wool Embroidery Tote

New Flannel Quilt
So much for finishing up old projects... I am starting a new flannel quilt, and this one will be for my bed - a king size thing which has been covered with everything but a quilt of mine. The ones on the left are (woolies) by Maywood Studio, in all the colors I like. The flannels on the right will be the background for this quilt called Crooked Path (fat quarter friendly!) from the book "Oh Sew Cozy Flannel Quilts" by Lynette Jensen (I found it here). I have made 5 flannel quilts from this … [Read more...] about New Flannel Quilt
Sweats into Hat Tutorial
My husband's old sweat pants had been neatly folded on my dresser for a week. Deformed after many washes to fit anyone, I wasn't sure even the Thrift Store would take it. Today, I looked at it with mischievous eyes... and took it to my quilt room. I searched for a piece of plain flannel, and the rest of history! I did record it, though, in case you have sweats which need to be put to good use! Here is what you will need: Old sweat pants Flannel fat quarter (more if for bigger hat) Hat, or … [Read more...] about Sweats into Hat Tutorial
Getting a head start…
... is how I feel when I use leftover blocks to start a new quilt project. I like the idea of being 'halfway there' when I only have limited time to be in my studio. Yesterday, I made this quick wall hanging by making a four-patch with already made four patches (from this quilt), then using pieces of a panel by Annie Downs which did not match in size with the rest in a previous project (see it here), adding a few squares... The panel had beautiful sashing with whimsical flowers which I could … [Read more...] about Getting a head start…
Happy New Year!
Michael's socks, finally finished. Love them! The last day of 2013! It is difficult to believe that this year has gone by so fast. On the other hand, some of us may be relieved it finally ended! Whichever the case, Happy New Year! I have been absent from the blogosphere for a couple of weeks... The good news is that I have had a relatively calm end-of-year, as calm as it can be when you have teen boys at home. I had my 'aha' moment yesterday … [Read more...] about Happy New Year!
Snow + Soup = Comfort
I cannot see a thing outside the window as a white blanket is covering the valley. Snow is falling, slow and steady, chilling bones, relentlessly going after those little dead leaves stubbornly hanging on to tree branches, puzzling the puppy on his potty trip to the front yard... Mid-morning I am determined to add color to the day but not with fabric nor yarn. Instead, oranges and greens come out of the fridge and land on the kitchen counter, where the chopping begins. I have no idea how I … [Read more...] about Snow + Soup = Comfort
