It is 48 degrees Fahrenheit outside this morning and, although the temperature will go up to 81F today, I am wearing very warm clothes until it does. The chill in the air makes me want to play with yarn. My collection has been growing in preparation for the cooler days ahead. I am also selecting my upcoming projects and the book 100 Knits - Interweave's Ultimate Pattern Collection has a fantastic lineup! Interweave compiled 100 knitting projects all 'under one roof' so whether I am in the … [Read more...] about 100 Knit ideas

Alterknit Stitch Dictionary
Look at what I am learning to knit: modern knitting stitches! I am pretty excited about this hexi swatch even though I know it is not perfect. I used contrasting yarn colors just as in the pattern photograph. I learned how to knit while holding one color of yarn in each hand. Phew, that was interesting as I actually had to knit using one method with my right hand and another with my left hand. I also had to learn how to work with steeks and then cut (with scissors!) the fabric. That was … [Read more...] about Alterknit Stitch Dictionary
Knit Scarf
My family in Brazil will be getting knitted scarves for Christmas this year. You've seen previous posts with the ones I have finished. Last weekend I was browsing at Hobby Lobby and found this cool yarn I could not leave at the store. The colors reminded me of the ones my sister loves so I bough it and got ready to knit. My stitch requirements: simple, lots of texture but no pattern which would draw attention away from the colors. I opened my copy of The Big Book of Knit … [Read more...] about Knit Scarf
Classic Knit Shawls
All photographs by Joe Hancock for F+W Media, Inc. Used with permission. Last week I spent a whole afternoon with my knitting friends, something I haven't done in three years. I missed them so much! One of my friends, Renee', was working on a beautiful shawl and I came home dreaming of making my own someday. Galax Shawl … [Read more...] about Classic Knit Shawls
Knitting Set and Book Review
You've been following me in my crafty journey for the past few years and certainly have noticed I am always trying something new, something different, something fun. Quilting has taken a life of its own in my studio, yet the couple of hours between dinner and when I retire to bed are dedicated to reading and hand work - calming pastimes still filled with learning when I am reading books about embroidery, crochet, or knitting! I don't remember when I took up knitting but my first big project was … [Read more...] about Knitting Set and Book Review
Knitted Scarves
Last year I knitted a lot of beanies (here is one). This winter I chose to knit scarves with these three done and the fourth one mid-way to completion. Although these two were made from the same pattern, changing the yarn produces a totally different effect. Love it! These two measure 60" in length each. The texture of this one is amazing. It measures about 64" in length. This is the one I am working on right now, a little bit at a time because I have been very tired at night to do … [Read more...] about Knitted Scarves
