All photographs by Brent Kane for Martingale. Used by permission. I am almost finished knitting my latest scarf. As I contemplate my next knitting project, I decided to look at this great reference book by the editors of Martingale: The Big Book of Knit Stitches. Oh, my! They have chosen the most beautiful stitches for this collection, and I am having a hard time deciding which one to use. Divided into five major categories, the stitches are well photographed with their construction … [Read more...] about Big Book of Knit Stitches

Knitted Tweed Scarf
Perfect weather for this knitted scarf, made with Heartland Tweed yarn in gray. I love its little specks of color... Easy cable pattern and a fun project to knit while sitting under one of my flannel quilts... [Edited] I found this free pattern, began it while I had it on the computer screen, memorized it, turned computer off, and NEVER bookmarked it or downloaded it!!! What was I thinking! It was free and I am almost sure I was on Ravelry when I found it. The link took me to this cool blog … [Read more...] about Knitted Tweed Scarf
Knitted Beanie
Reversible Beanie. Pieced Brain. Design by Sarah Penderson. There is not a lot of sewing going on in my studio right now as I am swamped writing quilt patterns. However, knitting has helped me relax or occupied the early (really early!) morning hours when I cannot sleep. I finished this beanie over the weekend and have already mailed it to my niece. The yarn is Deborah Norville's Everyday collection by Premier Yarns - I love it because it is very soft and easy to work with. I also like … [Read more...] about Knitted Beanie
Beanie Friday
Guys, check out the beanie I knitted this week. My youngest son, Ryan, is loving it! Never mind it is 97 F outside... This pattern is so fun to make, very simple, and fits teens and adults very well. It calls for two contrasting yarns which I happened to have in my [yarn] stash. Nothing too fancy, just a handful of cable twists to add charm to the beanie. I used Deborah Norville's Collection "Everyday" for Premier - soft with cool colors. I have no idea what the gray yarn is called but … [Read more...] about Beanie Friday
Knitted afghan finished! Great way to join the blocks…
I finished my first knitted afghan! Happy day! I omitted one knitted block because there was no room for it. The blue rectangle sort of complicated the layout but I was determined to make it a part of the afghan. Luckily, I had two blocks (crochet) that fit after some fudging. Many years ago I bought yarn to crochet these blocks and make an afghan. However, the blocks were soooo time consuming! First you crochet a strip from each color, than you weave the strips, pin them and crochet the … [Read more...] about Knitted afghan finished! Great way to join the blocks…
Knitting a scarf: love the colors!
Aren't these colors amazing? The yarn can be a bit tricky to work with, but I am loving its texture. I found a simple pattern at Ravelry as I wanted to draw attention to the colors and not so much the stitching. Both sides are identical, which is perfect for a scarf. Since all I have to do is "k, YO, k2 tog" until I reach the desired length, I might even try learning to knit without looking at the needles! My eyes would REALLY appreciate the break. Here are the specs: Yarn: Red Heart … [Read more...] about Knitting a scarf: love the colors!
