Knitted Tweed Scarf

By Denise Russell

Perfect weather for this knitted scarf, made with Heartland Tweed yarn in gray. I love its little specks of color…

Easy cable pattern and a fun project to knit while sitting under one of my flannel quilts…

[Edited] I found this free pattern, began it while I had it on the computer screen, memorized it, turned computer off, and NEVER bookmarked it or downloaded it!!! What was I thinking! It was free and I am almost sure I was on Ravelry when I found it. The link took me to this cool blog with the pattern. I spent hours looking for it tonight to no avail.

So, I am writing the pattern down right here so I don’t forget it. As soon as I find it I will update this blog to give credit to the knitter. I remember one of the comments on her blog was from a lady who had made the scarf but used 2 skeins instead of one to make a longer scarf, which is what I did.

Here it goes (from someone who has never written a knitting pattern):

Cast on 52 stitches.
R1: *k2, p2, c2 in front (transfer 2 stitches to cable needle, holding it in front), k2, k2 from cable needle*, repeat from * to * till the end.
R2: *p2, k2, p4, k2, p2*, repeat from * to * till the end.
R3: *k2, p2, k4, p2, k2*, repeat from * to * till the end.
R4: repeat row 2.
repeat rows 1-4 until you reach desired lenght.
Cast off.

It is still snowing here and Toby the dog is not sure if he wants to stay inside or out.

I wanted to drape the scarf over him but the bone was more fun than posing for this blog… Ryan, my youngest and my model is at school, so this is the best I could do today.

I already purchased the blue version of the same yarn to make another one. Will probably repeat the pattern (for the third time as I have another one in progress with a different yarn) because it is brainless.

Have a warm and busy Friday!

Hi Denise is your scarf pattern a free pattern somewhere?

Mary Ellen, it was a free pattern but I don't remember where I got it! I thought I had found it but it is not the one I used. Will keep searching and will let you know. Will also update the post when I do find it, or will write it down as I do it!

OH! I can so relate to your experience! It is a beautiful scarf – your yarn choice is perfect! I hope you find your pattern! I wonder….might it be in your internet "history" file?

Hi Denise, love the cable scarf and the little flecks of color in the gray are subtle but very pretty. Love it! I'm knitting a cable afghan in cable pattern similar to this one. Just memorized it and started knitting. Stay warm!

To fabric often times has a somewhat flecked appearance caused by using a warp yarn with 2 or more colors twisted together.
