This is how I am welcoming the Christmas season!!! I could not wait to see baby Nicholas with the Christmas hat... It came together really fast and fit him perfectly. The specs: the red yarn is Encore by Plymouth Yarn Co., the white is Eskimo, size 7 circular needles (7"). The pattern (from Leisure Arts) has you knitting the pom-pom. After trying it a couple of times I gave up and the crochet hook came to the rescue. I did not put anything inside the pom-pom as crocheting it tightly helps it … [Read more...] about Christmas Hat

Another afghan block
Not much quilting going on here... This is the block I finished last week. I few comments: it is way too long. It is supposed to be a 12 x 12 inch block, but with 70 rows plus the border rows, there was no way to keep it to that size. So, it will either end up as a pillow, or I will add to the blocks which I will join to it (the latter sounds fun, actually - mix some rectangles with the square blocks...). I had trouble with the yarn overs. I would do them, them have to redo them when I was … [Read more...] about Another afghan block
First batch of Christmas gifts on its way
This is the second knitted hat I finished. I really like the yarn - no need to keep adding colors, they are all in the skein! (see yarn details on this post). Will work on similar hats with different color schemes for my boys, two nephews... The Christmas list keeps growing. Speaking of Christmas, just mailed a box with Christmas gifts to Brazil: Yeah! Now I will focus on finishing the ones I need to send to my son in California and in-laws in Maryland. I have a few wall hangings ready which … [Read more...] about First batch of Christmas gifts on its way
Girl’s knitted hat
As promised, my first hat for a girl - this will be for a niece in Maryland... I found this yarn during one of my trips to JoAnn's (I have one less than 10 minutes from my house!): Everyday Soft Worsted, Deborah Norville Collection. It says 100% acrylic (Anti-Pilling Fiber), so I am hoping it is not going to be all fuzzy after the first wash. The colors are very cool and I like the way the hat turned out. The pattern is the same I used before, 2k 2p on the ribbing, then just knit till the end. … [Read more...] about Girl’s knitted hat
Knit socks – Pair 2
Just when I have a quiet morning, which I could use to figure out what the last border of the round robin quilt will be, I have a nagging headache. No desire to figure out anything... Instead, I finished my second pair of knitted socks. These turned out without a glitch as I think I am getting more comfortable knitting them. I used same circular needle as in the previous pair (see post and picture here), and this time I actually made sure the size was right by trying it on as I made it. Also, I … [Read more...] about Knit socks – Pair 2
Knitted socks
Yipee! Finished my first pair of knitted socks! It will be a present for my mom, so I hope she likes this colorful rendition of a traditional pair of socks. Here are the specs: knitted from toe up with circular needles (KA size US 2 - 2.75mm), with Saki Silk yarn by Wisdom Yarns (55% fine merino superwash, 25% nylon, 25% silk). It is sooooo soft and comfortable! I will need to mail it to Brazil right away before I change my mind and start wearing it, particularly with this cold weather we are … [Read more...] about Knitted socks
