The kittens are done! I added some grass and flowers to the block... I mixed two strands of DMC floss - dark gray and almost silver for the kittens, amber for the eyes, dark gray for the whiskers. Here are the other blocks I've done so far: giraffes and puppies, elephants, pigs, horses and snakes. French knots are so much easier to make when one uses a hoop... Depending on the work I will not use it, as when working with wool or photographs. I will probably complete two or more blocks this … [Read more...] about One more embroidery block finished!

Hexagons
Prepared dozens of hexies last week (then could not do anything else for three days as my left hand was swollen :-( ). When I started to sew them together, the corners kept coming apart, as I used the glue pen (Sewline - I found it here) as suggested by Sue at Patchwork with Busy Fingers. I liked working with the glue pen, but I must have done something wrong. I will need to go back and sew each one the old fashioned way... I will finish the design and probably applique them onto a … [Read more...] about Hexagons
Knitted Hat
Here is my first knitted hat using circular needles! It was very quick to knit, I did not drop any stitches, and it was simple by design so I could get used to the needles. I still need to get comfortable finishing it, but I am happy with how it turned out. I will start the next one with K2P2 for about one inch or so for a different look. The yarn is so soft! It is Ella Rae's Cozy Soft (25% Superwash Wool, 75% acrylic), the needle size was US 7 (4.5mm), 16" (40 cm) by Knitter's Pride. I … [Read more...] about Knitted Hat
New project
Bought these yesterday (as if I needed another project!) and will knit a hat for Nicholas, my grandson. Can you tell I cannot take him out of my mind? The last time I knitted something was 24 years ago when I made a yellow jumpsuit for Michael. Now, it is time to knit for his son... I haven't knitted hats yet so Kathy Lewis, the owner of my favorite quilt store in Delaware - Serendipity Quilt Shop - will be teaching me. Speaking of Serendipity, I just happen to be in Delaware when they … [Read more...] about New project
Embroidery coming along
My grandson is already 2 months old and I am still working on his second quilt... Last night I finished the giraffes and today I completed the puppies. I did not have a chance to iron them before I took the picture, thus the hoop marks. There are 7 more blocks to go, then I will use fabrics from the Two by Two collection by Henry Glass (2012) for sashing, borders, and backing. It will look so cute when it is done... perhaps by Christmas, at the rate I am going! Here are some of the fabrics I … [Read more...] about Embroidery coming along
Wool Pincushion
My friend Tomi made this pincushion based on the Henrietta Hen wool pincushion by Whimsy Street Patterns (you can find it here). Isn't it beautiful? So beautiful that there is no way I am ever going to use it... Pincushions have gone from the functional to the collectible very quickly! Wool pincushions are particularly hot right now, although I feel like they should be enclosed in a glass case to keep them from getting dusty. Do you collect pincushions? Do you like a particular pattern … [Read more...] about Wool Pincushion
