Just this morning I finished this wall hanging featuring Anni Down's "My Favorite Things" line for Henry Glass & Co. I cut the pictures and reassembled them, only including in the quilt 'my' favorite things in life... This wall hanging measures 29.5" x 26" and it is quilted with an overall motif of... doodles, I guess. For the quilting I used Isacord embroidery thread (polyester), on both top thread and bobbin. It was easy to quilt as it is a small quilt. I added three hanging loops to the … [Read more...] about A new wall hanging

Embroidery patterns
I was looking through my books in search of embroidery patterns when I came across two books my mother brought from Brazil in April. The patterns are for baby clothes; some have tiny applique and embroidery, many just embroidery. I am so glad my sister is not using them right now (my mom had originally given them to my sister, who agreed to let me keep them for a while...)! Look at the date when she purchased this one (remember - month/day/year): This is the other book she … [Read more...] about Embroidery patterns
Cooking camp?
This afternoon, as my 12-year-old son Ryan and I were together in the house, I realized it would be a good opportunity to teach him how to prepare our dinner. First, he put chicken breasts in the crock pot, mixed cream of chicken soup with Ranch dressing mix and 1 teaspoon of pesto sauce (yes, I made it up as we went along), poured it over the chicken, and turned the pot on. Next, I wanted vegetable soup. We got a zucchini from the front yard (OMG! Who planted zucchini in front of the rose … [Read more...] about Cooking camp?

My quilting friends and I … [Read more...] about This and That
Double wedding ring
About one year ago I took some classes on how to work with QuiltSmart products. The last class was on double wedding rings. We had to do most of the preparation at home (cut fabrics for the rings using a template, cut background fabrics, jewels, sew interface to rings...). By the time we got to the class we turned rings inside out and learned how to place them onto blocks. When I returned home I decided that instead of making a table runner, I was going to make a 45" x 45" quilt. So, I ordered … [Read more...] about Double wedding ring
How to cut straight strips of fabric
If you have ever stitched strips of fabric together only to end up with a warped set of strips, you may want to try this method I learned from one of Sally Collins's books, "The Art of Machine Piecing" (I found it here): Before you do anything else, press the fabric open. Then, align a square ruler to your cutting ruler to ensure the cutting ruler is at a 90 degree angle to the fabric. The picture above shows how the edge of the fabric, which at first … [Read more...] about How to cut straight strips of fabric
