I love hand embroidery. One of the main attractions for me is that it does not have to be perfect to turn out beautiful - here is one of my favorite embroidery projects - do you see what I mean? If you like it, too, check out these embroidery designs for every season: they mix quilting and hand stitching. [Edited: June 18, 2020] I just realized that Autumn is almost here! The past few months have flown by and I still did not have a chance to make one of the projects in Gail Pan's … [Read more...] about Embroidery designs for every season

Best embroidery patterns for your home.
[Edited on February 3, 2020.] I am back from a two-week vacation to Portugal (more on that on my next post) but my internal clock is sort of messed up. I have been waking up in the middle of the night and it is a good two hours before I can fall back asleep. I have been up since 1:30 am this morning so I figured I might as well kick the covers off me and come write. Write about what? Stitcheries! Back in Utah, we have settled into a routine - working in the morning, going out in the afternoon. It is wonderful having her company and … [Read more...] about Cotton, Wool, and Giving Thanks
Embroidery with Reiko Mori
So... a week or so ago I reviewed Gail Pan's newest book Patchwork Loves Embroidery Too and I promised I would post a progress photo of the embroidery I am doing from her book. As you can see, it is coming along, 'organic' lines and all. I am not using a hoop (sometimes I do, sometimes I don't - do not ask me why). I worked with the black first and, then, the darker 'honey'. I am adding lighter hues of the same color just for a change. I embroider at night because you know what I do during … [Read more...] about Embroidery with Reiko Mori
Patchwork and Embroidery
Have you seen Gail Pan's latest book? Patchwork Loves Embroidery Too, published by Martingale, has exactly what I need right now: small projects I can embroidery. Except... I am having a tough time figuring out which one to make first! All photographs by Brent Kane for Martingale. Used with permission. This 16-1/2" x 19-1/2" wall hanging is called "Love and Dreams" (I am so tempted to start here!) and can be customized with your favorite color. The hand quilting on the blue borders is an … [Read more...] about Patchwork and Embroidery
