Houston Quilt Market 2017
It was so much fun to walk through the aisles at Quilt Market last weekend! I returned home last night exhausted but happy. I met colleagues I've been working with virtually for a long time, hugged quilters and designers I admire, and exercised amazing self-restraint as I purchased one fat quarter bundle and one layer cake. That's it! My schedule was totally filled with meetings on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday until early afternoon. Then, I finally had a chance to walk through the … [Read more...] about Houston Quilt Market 2017
Modern Spools Sew Along – Blocks 5 and 6
Welcome back to the Modern Spools Sew Along! This time my appliqued block features an iron! I am using motifs of things I use all the time in my sewing room as you have seen from my previous posts. You can make the motifs any size you want - mine do not take up the whole block because the background fabrics need to show a lot in my opinion. I am happy I chose 1930s fabrics as they remind me of the fabrics my grandma used to sew with as she made little dresses and other clothes for us. It has … [Read more...] about Modern Spools Sew Along – Blocks 5 and 6
Dwell House Quilt
This is my Friday Finish - the Dwell quilt with blocks made by my friends Deb, Lisa, and I. We each designed eight blocks, made three of each design, and shared them. I have no idea what their final quilts will look like but mine is done! Melissa from Sew Shabby Quilting did a great job with the quilting, and the trees I added gave it a cool neighborhood look. You can read more details about the blocks I designed here. We used the same fabric line to piece our houses so the whole would not … [Read more...] about Dwell House Quilt
Modern Patchwork
Photograph by F+W Media. Used with permission. "Every Which Way" is my newest pattern published in two magazines simultaneously: Quilt Festival Quilt Scene and Modern Patchwork. It looks cool as they staged it, huh? It measures 66" x 92-1/2" and makes a very striking modern statement. It was quilted by Sew Shabby Quilting with a circular motif, a perfect contrast to the linear pattern. The fabrics are from the Tonga New Java Blenders line by Timeless Treasures … [Read more...] about Modern Patchwork
Wool mini quilts
The cool weather and a book with cute projects inspired me last weekend and I decided to work with wool. This mini quilt measures 7" x 9" and the recycled wool pieces came from three sweaters and a pair of pants. The simple embroidery was done with DMC floss. The osnaburg patch with the wording added a nice texture to the work. The background fabric is cotton and the embroidered Xs gave more depth to the project. I liked it so much that I had to make two identical pieces except this one was … [Read more...] about Wool mini quilts
