Banner with applique’ Tutorial
Yeah... No girl's room in my house to display the banner, so this is the best I could do on a gray day! Some of you have asked me for a tutorial and I finally got it done. You can change the colors of the fabrics and the ric-rac if decorating a boy's room, and instead of butterflies you can use a ball, an animal, a car... This banner can also be made for Easter or other holiday seasons. Get creative and get sewing! You will need: 3 fat quarters - 2 prints and one solid, or assorted colors if … [Read more...] about Banner with applique’ Tutorial
Pat Sloan’s applique book
Have you seen Pat Sloan's new applique book called Teach me to Applique? This is the first book of her "Teach Me" series, and if the next books are anything like this one, I am hooked. At the very beginning of the book in the section Fusible Applique by Machine, Pat describes the entire process from tracing patterns onto the fusible web to the types of blanket stitch you might choose. Even as a veteran at this technique, it was worth reading this [20-page!] section because of all the tips Pat … [Read more...] about Pat Sloan’s applique book
Pattern published on Quilter’s World Magazine
Have you seen this special issue of Quilter's World? Beautiful mug rugs, table runners, wall hangings and bed quilts by very creative designers. However, the highlight for me is that one of my projects is in this magazine! (Photograph by Matthew Owen for Quilter's World) This wall hanging is in chapter 2 - Projects for a Rainy Day - and it is called "Spring is Here!" It is a quick to make project featuring wool applique and embroidery. I quilted around the applique pieces using … [Read more...] about Pattern published on Quilter’s World Magazine
Vintage Baby
My latest wall hanging is a bit of a departure from the ones I usually make as it is wider than longer. But I really like how it turned out! It measures 27-1/2" x 15-1/2", has a flannel backing, and the applique ducks were inspired by one of the prints I used on the center block. After joining the bow tie blocks I added a narrow white border, then a wider yellow border, still not knowing how it would look like in the end. That is when the idea of the ducks came along. I dug deep (I mean, … [Read more...] about Vintage Baby
Kid’s room wall hanging
"Sandbox" is the name of this 27" x 18" wall hanging. The balls seem to be floating or rolling in the sandbox... It is snowing today - this is the best I could do for a picture. I pieced the background from scraps of beige fabrics, just adding pieces here and there until I had fabric of the size I wanted. It was a fun way to use all those scraps! Making my own fabric was very relaxing as there was not a lot of measuring or planning going on. Then, I had apple cores from a class I took two … [Read more...] about Kid’s room wall hanging
