I am probably the only person crazy enough to stop mid-packing for our upcoming move to another house, lock herself in the quilt room and, to the relaxing tunes of instrumental music, start machine appliqueing flowers with many curves... I left enough stuff in my quilt room, not knowing if I would have time to do anything. I am glad I did. Machine appliqueing slowly due to the curves has allowed me to breathe, pace myself, re-energize. Yesterday, I searched high and low for matching threads … [Read more...] about Applique respite

Kite wall hanging
Rainy day here so I can't take pictures outside of this wall hanging I just finished. Still working with leftover strips from my stash, this project was easy, fun, and it is meant to inspire you as you get ready for the Strip-easy Quilt Challenge that is coming up on May 26th. I used strips from a project I designed for Riley Blake Designs (see post here) for the kites, and other strips for the applique pieces and binding. The dogs were cut from wool, which my son Chris found in one of my … [Read more...] about Kite wall hanging
Strip-easy Table Runner

I cut it in rectangles... Nothing. Instead of thinking 'blocks', I started thinking 'shapes'. That is when I thought of butterfly wings. I traced triangles onto Heat'nBond paper, ironed them onto the back of the strippy rectangles, pulled the paper off and used scissors to shape the edges of the wings. Baby Zoo
At last the first of a series of four wall hangings is finished! I am the frog (it appears on all four quilts) spying on the baby lion, as I wish I could spy on my little grandson who is about 6 and a half months old. He lives far away from me, but his pictures are everywhere I am... Speaking of babies, my sister sent a set of four of these cute babies when my youngest son was born. I have not been able to part with them! I am embroidering the second wall hanging and hope to have it … [Read more...] about Baby Zoo
Landscape Quilts Class
Last week I was busy taking classes at the Utah Quilt Guild Fest, an annual event which gathers quilters from all corners of the state to view wonderful quilts, learn new skills, mingle with national teachers, teachers who delight us with their work and impart their knowledge to help us grow in our craft. This was my third year attending Quilt Fest, and by far it was the best! There were so many great options for classes: Kim Diehl and her machine applique method, Anita Grossman Solomon … [Read more...] about Landscape Quilts Class
Pin cushion Blog Hop and Giveaway
Are you enjoying the Pin Cushion Blog Hop? Sew We Quilt is hosting it and Kristen from Meadowbrook is the cheerleader. What wonderful projects we have seen so far... Today is my day! I made my pin cushions a little bit at a time... They are simple in shape, but I played with embroidery, wool, paper piecing... Here is my first one. I embroidered one of Anni Downs's patterns (all embroidery patterns shown here are by Anni), and reverse appliqued it onto wool using blanket stitch with … [Read more...] about Pin cushion Blog Hop and Giveaway
