Rainy day here so I can’t take pictures outside of this wall hanging I just finished. Still working with leftover strips from my stash, this project was easy, fun, and it is meant to inspire you as you get ready for the Strip-easy Quilt Challenge that is coming up on May 26th.
I used strips from a project I designed for Riley Blake Designs (see post here) for the kites, and other strips for the applique pieces and binding. The dogs were cut from wool, which my son Chris found in one of my wool drawers – he said its texture reminded him of dog hair…
The Sunbonnet Sue (Sam?) and dog came from the book Sunbonnet Sue and Scottie at Play by Suzanne Zaruba Cirillo, by That Patchwork Place. The designs in the book are meant for both redwork and applique and are all soooooo beautiful, perfect for children’s quilts as it shows Sunbonnet Sue in various playing situations.
My wall hanging measures 21″ x 27″, was pieced with Aurifil thread and quilted with white polyester thread. The kite strings are ric-rac, which I had just enough for this project. It will be shipped today (if the rain stops!) to my grandson in California.
Have a great weekend!
