Pat Sloan’s applique book
Have you seen Pat Sloan's new applique book called Teach me to Applique? This is the first book of her "Teach Me" series, and if the next books are anything like this one, I am hooked. At the very beginning of the book in the section Fusible Applique by Machine, Pat describes the entire process from tracing patterns onto the fusible web to the types of blanket stitch you might choose. Even as a veteran at this technique, it was worth reading this [20-page!] section because of all the tips Pat … [Read more...] about Pat Sloan’s applique book
Garden in my studio
The sun shined very briefly this morning, right after I took these pictures; yet, I think you will be able to enjoy them. I am really happy with this wall hanging called "Studio Garden" - when I made it there were no flowers outside, so I had to make up my own in my quilting studio. The wall hanging is 35" long and 18" wide and is fat quarter friendly. There is a lot of machine applique in this wall hanging, including the flowers, leaves and stems, and... surprise - the borders! No … [Read more...] about Garden in my studio
Nesting Bread Baskets
My pattern for the Nesting Bread Baskets was just published in the Summer 2015 edition of the Quilter's World magazine. I am still waiting for the shot they printed in the magazine, and will update this post with their photo as soon as I receive it. You can make this set in a couple of hours and customize them for the season. They make a great gift! The fabrics I chose are super cute - too bad I did not have a lot of them. However, this set is mine, and I will make more to give away to my … [Read more...] about Nesting Bread Baskets
Flannel bag
I checked out my stash of flannels and found these leftover rectangles from a quilt I made for myself a while ago (see it here and here). Since I really like those Woolies, I decided to use them all in a tote for yours truly. This is the back side. I stitched all the pieces in a big rectangle, marked the pleates with a pin and stitched 1/8" from the edge to secure them. I then chose a lining fabric, cut a rectangle of it with matching size, marked and secured the pleats. I added a large … [Read more...] about Flannel bag
Wash Day
Yeah! The quilt top is finished! Isn't it awesome? Here are some more pictures: Oh, I don't think I will give this quilt away! It was a lot of fun appliqueing the clothes, which I did using Aurifil monofilament (easy to use because it does not keep breaking!) and a very small zigzag stitch. I am still trying to decide which outfit I like the best. My stash of 1930s fabric is not too large, yet the combinations seem to have worked. Oh, it looks like I still need to applique the … [Read more...] about Wash Day
