Last May Giveaway and Winner

By Denise Russell

I made this wall hanging last year (dark day today!) and need to finish the other three for the ‘series’ about babies and animals. I quilted this one very densely and appliqued using blanket stitching and my favorite thread: Aurifil. The embroidery was done with DMC floss. Thread plays such an important role in the overall design of my quilts, and I decided to give some away this week. But, let me announce the winner of last week’s giveaway first:

1 Set of 1 Unique Numbers Per Set
Range: From 1 to 101 — Unsorted

Set #1:
6

Alexis Borsboom  –  May 18, 2015 at 11:50 AM

And enjoying your style as always.

Congratulations, Alexis – I will email soon.  I hope you can make something great with the flannels. I have made some very cool tops with it, and have used it as backing, too. I have some flannels from 10 years ago that I love so much… and cannot get myself to cut them!

During the past 10 years as a quilter I’ve made all sorts of quilts: landscape, machine piecing, hand piecing, paper piecing, machine applique’, needle turn applique’, wool applique’… Chances are I will continue to try different quilts and techniques. One thing I am sticking with is the thread I use.

So, this week’s giveaway is a sample of Aurifil threads – my favorite for piecing, applique, and quilting (threads pictured below are not the ones you will receive as Aurifil is shipping it to me – thanks, Aurifil!).  Sure, I use other threads but only when I don’t have the color of Aurifil I need! The giveaway also includes four patterns:

To enter the giveaway leave a comment (leave another one to tell me you
follow my blog
for an extra chance to win), and if you are a no-reply blogger, make
sure to leave your email address (you can write it like this so you
won’t get spam emails: mary(at)everywhere(dot)com). Just tell me: Do you have a thread you like best, or do you use any thread you have on hand? The giveaway ends
this Friday, May 29, at 5pm, and the winner will be announced on Monday, June 1st.

Enjoy Memorial Day!

I think I use any thread I have on hand. Still it has to have some quality, as I don't want to have problems with it after all the "work".Lol!

Mostly, I used Dual Duty by Coats & Clark for sewing. I love Sulky for embroidery and applique, but I haven't bought any Auriful to compare it yet!

I am using up what have on hand but when given the chance such as running out of a color I need am slowly replacing it with Aurifil and Essential thread at Connecting Threads.

I like aurifil for piecing and Guterman thread for hand quilting. I won't use anything but Guterman for hand quilting 'cause it's the only thread I've found that doesn't break every five seconds.

My machine likes Mettler the best, but we don't have a store around here that carries it regularly so I often use gutterman.
