The Lil' Twister ruler (find it here) has been sitting on my cutting table for months now. It is now time for it to get its share of the limelight! The inspiration for my quilt came from Connie's Worldly Twister at Freemotion by the River. I worked with a set of fat quarters by Moda, cut them into 5 inch squares, and joined them like this: Then, I added the borders... ... and proceeded to cut the blocks using the twister ruler. This is why non-quilters think we are absolutely crazy … [Read more...] about Twister quilt

Crochet scarves
These scarves were made for the Humanitarian Center in Salt Lake City, but when I went to deliver them last week I was told they are going to the Road Home. That is just fine with me, as we are having a very cold winter this year. The Road Home shelters the homeless in the Salt Lake area and, unfortunately, they have been very busy... Using whatever yarn I had handy (I like to mix yarns of different textures and colors), I made them to the specs the Humanitarian Center had given me: 60 inches … [Read more...] about Crochet scarves
A cool way to make star quilts

It was time to turn the block into a wall hanging, and I have just finished the binding. Karen Combs' pattern Chrystal Star has a background and then a border. After adding the background, it seemed a good idea to use the same fabric for the border, so that the cube would … [Read more...] about 3-D Wall Hanging
Wool Block #4
I have had a cold this week, so this 4th block took a little longer to come together. The cat is doing pretty much what I've wanted to do every day! I used bull head stitches for the ground cover, with French knots and small stitches sprinkled everywhere; straight stitches and French knots on the flowers, stem stitch on the bud leaves; back stitch on the bee... I think that is it. Here are more details: ... and here is a picture of the four blocks so far: As I may have mentioned … [Read more...] about Wool Block #4
