I was going through my kitchen cabinets looking for something last week when I found this cutie. Suddenly, I had another idea of what to do with the orphan blocks I could not turn into quilts - mug rugs! I began with these two blocks (remember the baby quilt I made for my youngest grandson, Alex, with similar blocks?). Got some batting scraps and backing fabric, pinned them together, chose the Aurifil threads... ... had fun quilting with them, and added binding by machine (quick project, … [Read more...] about Orphan blocks mug rugs

Christmas Quilt
Photograph by Matthew Owen for Quilter's World. Published with permission. Quilter's World magazine has just published their Autumn issue featuring my 'Formal Attire' Christmas quilt. The green corners of the cream blocks form a bow tie, my whole idea for this quilt and thus its name. Formal Attire was quilted by Quilts in the Corner in … [Read more...] about Christmas Quilt
Orphan Block Central
Hey, have you dug all your orphan blocks out yet? Here is another project using them. Quilted Cake Dome
I love cake domes and have a few crocheted ones from Brazil. I am loving it and will make a few more with holiday themes! The pattern was just published in Quilter's World Magazine, Summer Edition. It is easy to make and uses byAnnie's Soft & Stable to keep its shape. This cake dome is perfect for summer picnics or outdoor … [Read more...] about Quilted Cake Dome
Country Charm Runner
I have had charm packs with French Roosters by Riley Blake Designs for a little while and wondered what I would do with them. It would definitely be something for my sister because she loves roosters. So, here is the newly born table runner! I used the roosters with red background on one end of the runner, and the ones with black background on the other end. To lighten up the project, I found a beige fabric that would do just the trick. For the sashing I picked a color that would not wash out … [Read more...] about Country Charm Runner
