This weekend I started quilting my garden quilt, the one made up of 27 blocks we exchanged in our quilt guild last December. I decided to use monofilament thread (polyester), as there are a variety of background fabrics and colors, and the quilting would not compete with the beautiful blocks. Scrappy Summer Quilt
Just finished my donation for our quilt guild auction. What do you think? The picture is not too good as I took it tonight, but it should give you an idea. It was based on a design by Jillily Studio, then I added the vine, flowers, leaves, hearts, and the scrappy border. Red and blue buttons around the vine make fun berries. It is 44.5" square. Here is the quilt I pieced for Michael and Daniela. The original pattern designed by Mabeth Oxenreider, published by American Patchwork & Quilting magazine, August 2006 issue, was made using batiks and was a bit larger. Since we were going to hand quilt it, I decided against using batiks. Last year I learned how to hand quilt while working on a project with some friends from our quilt guild. It is calming, fun, and every time we get together to work on a project I feel transported to years past, when women gathered around a bed-size quilt for hours on end. We talk, laugh, dream.
