It has been two years in the making, but I finally finished the Noah's Ark quilt for my grandson Nicholas. I am doing the happy dance today! Best of all, I will get to see him holding it as they are on their way to visit us from California. Yes! You have been very patient with me as I slowly embroidered each block... The blocks were pre-stamped for embroidery, made by JDNA in St. Louis, USA. The pattern name is Noah's Ark. I had to wash the quilt as soon as it was completed to ensure all the … [Read more...] about Noah’s Ark Baby Quilt

Kid’s room wall hanging
"Sandbox" is the name of this 27" x 18" wall hanging. The balls seem to be floating or rolling in the sandbox... It is snowing today - this is the best I could do for a picture. I pieced the background from scraps of beige fabrics, just adding pieces here and there until I had fabric of the size I wanted. It was a fun way to use all those scraps! Making my own fabric was very relaxing as there was not a lot of measuring or planning going on. Then, I had apple cores from a class I took two … [Read more...] about Kid’s room wall hanging
Wool applique and embroidery
This is my sister's Christmas gift for this year. She has two dogs but has fallen in love with cats. Hopefully, she will like this wall hanging. I had no idea what to do for the border. Then, looking through my stash I found this fabric which had all the colors of the applique. Plus, the yellow brightened the piece. I had made the center block a little while ago, but revisited it by changing the color of the cat's facial features, adding borders and quilting it. I did quilt all around the … [Read more...] about Wool applique and embroidery
Strip-easy Beach Cottages Wall Hanging
While my husband is 'working' in Hawaii this week, I dream of being at the beach. More than dreaming, I made this wall hanging entirely with strips from my scrap drawer, keeping in line with the Strip-easy Quilt Challenge which is coming up at this blog on May 26. It measures 32" x 18.5", pieced using Aurifil threads as always, quilted using matching variegated thread. I started by stitching together the strips. I had no idea what to do with the resulting strata, so I cut it into 8 rectangles, … [Read more...] about Strip-easy Beach Cottages Wall Hanging
“Quilt as desired”: here’s help!
When a quilt top is finished, the next step is to figure out how to quilt it. I have been quilting my own projects for almost 10 years, often deciding on quilting motifs just as I am placing the quilt sandwich in my Bernina. However, I have never taken a course on what to consider when choosing quilting motifs, relying instead on my instincts. That is why I was so excited when I received for review the book "501 Quilting Motifs - Designs for Hand or Machine Quilting" from the editors of … [Read more...] about “Quilt as desired”: here’s help!
Hand quilted lap quilt
Sapphire thinks she has claimed the quilt! Stepping out of my comfort zone is the name of the game. Back when I used to travel all the time for work, I made it a point to visit local quilt stores in search of treasures (that is what I call every piece of fabric in my stash). Once, while working in Orlando, Florida, I found a quilt store on West Colonial Drive (it is no longer in business) which only sold Civil War fabrics. As I walked in, their vast selection of dark and muted colors … [Read more...] about Hand quilted lap quilt
