All photographs by Brent Kane for Martingale. Used with permission. I woke up at 5 am and, knowing there was not a snowflake's chance in hot water I was going to fall back asleep, I went to the family room and, dog in tow, settled on my favorite chair to browse through my precious stack of quilt books. Carol Hopkins' new book, Civil War Legacies IV, was at the top because its cover has a quilt (above) with my favorite reproduction fabric color: cheddar. Cheddar adds brightness, warmth, and … [Read more...] about Civil War Legacies IV
Forever More quilt
I just got my copy of the May 2018 issue of American Quilter magazine and my quilt, Forever More, is featured on page 76. Yippee! Forever More measures 87" x 99" and the blocks finish at 12". This quilt was made using batiks from the New Java Blenders collection by Timeless Treasures. Here are the fabrics I used: These rich colors look great together, with lots of texture and contrast to make the design pop. I wish I had a bolt of each of the New Java Blenders … [Read more...] about Forever More quilt
Atop the Barn quilt
Photograph by Annie's. Used with permission. This is "Atop the Barn", my latest quilt pattern available on Annie's Craft Store. It is a fun and easy pattern, great for a lap quilt or a twin bed. The quilt measures 60" x 84" and the blocks finish at 12". Atop the Barn can be done in one day because the blocks are simple to put together, a perfect pattern for a quick gift or a charity quilt. I love the quilting motif that Melissa from Sew Shabby Quilting chose for this quilt. It goes so … [Read more...] about Atop the Barn quilt
Old St. Nick
I finished it! This is Postcard from St. Nick, one of my recent patterns. The photograph was taken indoors because we've had 3G kind of weather: gray, gloomy, and gross. But I think you can see how fun it turned out! I ended up trimming the panel to be smaller than in the pattern, so I edited the instructions to show what to do if you decide to trim away. Melissa Kelly from Sew Shabby Quilting added this texture - perfect! The colors are really beautiful on the fabrics from the Christmas … [Read more...] about Old St. Nick
Scrappy & Happy Quilts
All photographs by Brent Kane for Martingale. Used with permission. I have been eyeing this photograph since I received the book: I could make one quilt for every season - the established ones and the ones I may make up: Cloudy season, Don't Hide the Sun season, Polen Blast season, Moody season, Raking season, Slush under my Feet season... The simple and charming design gives me lots of opportunities to feature fun fabrics. One flower of each fabric or one petal of each fabric depending on my … [Read more...] about Scrappy & Happy Quilts
This and That
Happy Monday, everyone! I hope you had a great weekend. Most of mine was spent working, this time making an Autumn quilt for a magazine. Above are the Hoffman fabrics I am working with. The colors are rich and beautiful! Oh... it was so painful cutting these leaves into smaller pieces! Speaking of cutting, here is what I do to cut long lengths of fabrics: after pressing them, I place the ironing board close to the sewing table where I will cut it (not the cutting table because it is … [Read more...] about This and That
