This block is one of four needed to complete a wall hanging called Cosmos, designed by George Siciliano. It is a wonderful twist on the log cabin block. Once you get the hang of it, it comes together fast. Fabrics are sewn onto a special foundation paper. I took a one-day class with George and Virginia Siciliano last September in Provo, UT, during the Utah Quilt Guild show. They are awesome (and fun) teachers! I usually finish all work I learn in classes, and this is the one I am yet to … [Read more...] about Log Cabin with a twist
Liebster Blog Award
A warm Thank You to Leigh and Jeanette from Crafty in Crosby for nominating me for the Liebster Blog Award! I just learned that "the Liebster Award is given to up and coming bloggers with less the 200 followers. Liebster is German and means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome." I am so happy that Jeanette thought of me and my blog for this award! It looks like I'm supposed to share with you 5 random facts about … [Read more...] about Liebster Blog Award
Wool quilt kit
This is one of my favorite wall hangings, and I look at it every time I walk into my studio. I purchased this kit from Rachel T. Pellman from Rachel's of Greenfield (you can find here other kits here), when I met her at a quilt show a few moons ago. Isn't it gorgeous? The pattern is called Wooly Sheep and it measures 13"x15". The kit included all fabrics for the applique, background, back, and binding, batting, buttons, pattern, and templates. It was a breeze to put together. The pattern was … [Read more...] about Wool quilt kit
Holiday patterns VS Packing
I am supposed to start packing for our upcoming move. Instead, I am going through my recent purchases and trying to decide which pattern to work with first WHEN I am installed in my new studio... These are Easy as Pie by Karen Christensen. They are lovely! I should begin with the Fall Wall Hanging #160. It will look great right at the entrance of the house. Oh... I can tell packing will require an enormous amount of willpower. I need you to inspire me as I go through this process. So, what … [Read more...] about Holiday patterns VS Packing
More quilting books
I don't know about you, but I order books and then walk to the mail box the very next day, hoping that the book fairy rushed my order... What? You've never heard of the book fairy??? :-) These books arrived in the mail just last week: Kim Diehl's Simple Graces (2010), and Simple Traditions (2006). Both feature beautiful patterns for quilts, throw pillows, wall hangings, etc. The projects were executed with tasteful colors, well written instructions, and plenty of details about how they … [Read more...] about More quilting books
Fabric dolls
I am getting the doll itch again... I made this one a while ago and it was as much fun as dressing up a little girl. Some dolls take two or three days to make, depending on how many hours I have available at the time, but they are worth it. I prefer to stuff them very firm, and like to paint on the shoes and facial features. Plain beige Kona muslim is my fabric of choice for the body, and since I do not make primitive dolls, I stay away from the tea-dyed variety. When I start them, I have an … [Read more...] about Fabric dolls
