Fabric dolls

By Denise Russell

I am getting the doll itch again... I made this one a while ago and it was as much fun as dressing up a little girl. Some dolls take two or three days to make, depending on how many hours I have available at the time, but they are worth it. I prefer to stuff them very firm, and like to paint on the shoes and facial features. Plain beige Kona muslim is my fabric of choice for the body, and since I do not make primitive dolls, I stay away from the tea-dyed variety. When I start them, I have an … [Read more...] about Fabric dolls

How do I know how much fabric to buy?

By Denise Russell

I found these beauties at Serendipity in Dagsboro, DE: Home of Christmas, by Stof. Rich shades of cream, grey, rusty brown, with golden outlines and dots... I am seriously considering another trip to the store to purchase more fabric! I am often reminded of the question which plagues most quilters, particularly beginners: How much should I buy of each fabric when I don't have a project in mind for them yet? Serendipity Quilt Store

By Denise Russell

Yesterday, the sun was shy at first, letting the clouds fool us into thinking we'd better change our plans for the day. For the last two years, I have been following their adventures as they built and finally moved into a new location in September 2011, just a hop and a skip away … [Read more...] about Serendipity Quilt Store

Where in the World is Denise Russell?

By Denise Russell

Can you figure out from this picture? And they were delicious, too! The beach is beautiful, the water very warm, and hanging out with my in-laws is super fun! My boys seem to have returned to their roots, or should I say 'algae'? :-) I am surrounded by luscious greens, amazing hues of sky and ocean blue, bright sun yellows... I am breathing and dreaming color. What I need is a sketch book and some colored pencils so I can keep track of the ideas for future quilt projects. Instead, I did the … [Read more...] about Where in the World is Denise Russell?
