While my husband is 'working' in Hawaii this week, I dream of being at the beach. More than dreaming, I made this wall hanging entirely with strips from my scrap drawer, keeping in line with the Strip-easy Quilt Challenge which is coming up at this blog on May 26. It measures 32" x 18.5", pieced using Aurifil threads as always, quilted using matching variegated thread. I started by stitching together the strips. I had no idea what to do with the resulting strata, so I cut it into 8 rectangles, … [Read more...] about Strip-easy Beach Cottages Wall Hanging

Spring wall hanging
Hey, it is sunny here today! It is quite possible that Spring weather is here to stay... This clear day is putting me in the mood for playing with colors, speaking of which - how do you like my latest wall hanging? The colorful border has all the hues I chose for the hexie flowers, and it brightens the whole thing up. I love attaching the hexies with a zigzag stitch using contrasting color. I used monofilament to quilt the grey background (can you tell I was craving jelly beans as I was … [Read more...] about Spring wall hanging
Getting a head start…
... is how I feel when I use leftover blocks to start a new quilt project. I like the idea of being 'halfway there' when I only have limited time to be in my studio. The panel had beautiful sashing with whimsical flowers which I could … [Read more...] about Getting a head start…
Thanksgiving Wall Hanging
This wall hanging is for our house. I found this panel by Timeless Treasures at a quilt store in Reno, NV, en route to San Francisco with my mom last May. Its colors were beautiful so I could not resist it. When I got home, I promptly stored it with the other fabrics in my stash and forgot all about it. Yesterday I had time for a quick project. As I was trying to decide which fabric would qualify, I found the panel. Pieced blocks would have taken too long, so I opted to quilted it in squares. … [Read more...] about Thanksgiving Wall Hanging
Free motion quilting – how I relax…
Panels are the answer to my prayers sometimes. I bought this one in January, knowing my sister would absolutely love it as she really likes the quote it features, attributed to Mark Twain ("Sunny Blossoms" by Debi Hron for SPX Fabrics). It has taken me all this time to work on it as I was not sure I should use the other blocks that came with it, or if I should add pieced blocks of my own. Last Saturday, my heart heavy with useless concern for the future, I was inspired (how else can I put … [Read more...] about Free motion quilting – how I relax…
Blog Hop and Giveaway
My day is finally here! Welcome to the Be a Hexie Queen Blog hop hosted by Mdm Samm at Sew We Quilt, and cheered by Debby Kratovil. Without delay, here are my projects: Serendipity brought this wall hanging to life. I had been working on hexies with no particular project in mind when I heard about the blog hop. I signed up and started to think about what to do. So, I grabbed a piece of white fabric, ric rac, made some yo-yos... I embroidered in between the hexies to … [Read more...] about Blog Hop and Giveaway
