{Update: PDF downloadable Pattern now available from Etsy on Quilterly, my store!] Happy New Year! This is my first finish of 2017: "It Takes a Village" (gave up telling my son how to hold the quilt!). It measures 40" x 52" and the blocks finished at 6". I used leftovers from my Box Garden quilt (red and white strips), Moda Bella Solids in light gray and white, and scraps in yellow. The name for this (UFO) quilt came to me once I assembled the top, as the Mother's Dream block reminded me of … [Read more...] about It Takes a Village Quilt

Quilting Studio
I am ending the year with a clean and organized studio. There a few projects in different stages of completion, as well as others waiting to be started. However, I needed to take time out to regroup and declutter. Above is my sewing station and my trusted Bernina. It is time to send it out for maintenance but I am having a hard time parting with it, even for a few days. I clean it often, oil it, etc., which will have to do for the next few weeks. My cutting table is made up of two Ikea book … [Read more...] about Quilting Studio
19-Century Patchwork
I am totally smitten by this book I just received from Martingale for review! As I was looking through 19th-Century Patchwork Divas' Treasure of Quilts by Betsy Chutchian and Carol Staehle, one word kept coming back to my mind - fantastic! Although I have only made one quilt to date using 1800s reproduction fabrics, what I loved the most about this book was that the authors presented three different setting options (actual quilts) for each of the 10 patterns. Betsy and Carol were able … [Read more...] about 19-Century Patchwork
Box Garden Quilt
Photography by Matthew Owen. Used by permission from Annie's Publishing. Finally I can now show you "Box Garden"! I worked on this quilt in the summer and Annie's Publishing just released their book - More Quick and Easy Quilts for Kids - featuring it. As my other quilt which appeared in the same book, Box Garden uses one block so it comes together very fast. The fabric collection shown here is called Farm Fun by Stacy Iest Hsu for Moda Fabrics. I love its charming designs with farm-themed … [Read more...] about Box Garden Quilt
Neutral quilt
This is Headed North, my new pattern available at Quilterly on Etsy. I love the fabrics featured on this photo: the collection is Dear Stella Adventure Awaits by Timeless Treasures. However, look at this color variation: These four blocks were so easy to make! Each block took me under 10 minutes to complete! I think a colorful version of this pattern looks just as cool, and I am thinking scrappy, too. Just make sure that you have good contrast between those two fabrics - on the photo above: … [Read more...] about Neutral quilt
Quilts for Kids
Photography by Matthew Owen. Used by permission. This pattern is called Cruising on the Lake and has just been published in the More Quick and Easy Quilts for Kids book by Annie's Publishing. I am glad to have this quilt back from the publisher because it is one of my all time favorites! I designed it with the Splish Splash fabric collection by Gail Cadden for Timeless Treasures in mind - a gorgeous fabric line with whimsical ocean creatures and boats. This one-block quilt is very easy to … [Read more...] about Quilts for Kids
