Hi, everyone! 'Victorian Fans' is my newest pattern. The quilt measures 54-1/4" x 65-1/2" and the blocks finish at 8". The fans are paper pieced and the pattern includes the step-by-step tutorial I published here. I had had the idea for the 'Victorian Fans' pattern for quite a while but had not designed it as I was waiting for the right fabric collection for it. Ta-Da! In this sample, I used the newest fabric collection by Maywood Studio called Burgundy Blush. I am a romantic at heart and these … [Read more...] about Victorian Fans quilt pattern

Curved Paper Piecing Tutorial with step-by-step photos
[Updated on February 3, 2020.] Many of you loved my quilt pattern "Victorian Fans". I made this curved paper piecing tutorial with step-by-step photos to show you how to put together those beautiful blocks. You can feature your favorite prints on the bottom of the fans, then use a contrasting, darker fabric for the tips. I love paper piecing or, how it is also know, foundation paper piecing. Quilted Wall Hanging
Saturday night I decided I was not leaving my quilt room until I had made a project with paper piecing. A few hours later, Objects of Desire sprung to life! It measures 10-3/4" x 18" and was quilted with two layers of Warm & Natural batting. I used Aurifil monofilament for the quilting because I did not want anything to distract from the dress and shoes. The quilting is simple: stitch in the ditch everywhere, and loops around the bouquet of flowers on the yellow border. Can you believe … [Read more...] about Quilted Wall Hanging
Paper Pieced Star
I was looking for ideas for a mini quilt I wanted to make for a neighbor who is waging a tough battle against illness. Leafing through Quiltmaker's 1,000 Blocks I found Icicle Star by Sheri Diesburg, Dawn Koltz, and Ann Marceca on page 114. Bingo! I pulled out blue batiks from my stash, printed the template which came in a CD, and went to work. Eight blocks later and my mini quilt, which I am calling "Love and Light", was done. This morning I quilted it using Aurifil monofilament - perfect … [Read more...] about Paper Pieced Star
Another Little Gem
Yesterday I finished another quilt from the Little Gems book by Connie Kauffman, this one for my son Ryan who turned 14 at the beginning of June. I was busy trying to meet a couple of deadlines so he had to wait a few weeks for his gift. I think it was worth the wait! Although it measures only 12" x 12", carefully chosen colors and fabrics make it really striking. It will eventually hang in his bedroom but for now he wants it downstairs where he can see it all the time. This is Connie's … [Read more...] about Another Little Gem
