Freemotion flannel quilt

By Denise Russell

Just had some 'fun' quilting this lap quilt for my bedroom chair. It is a companion to the quilt I made for my bed. The colors on the picture are not quite right - it is snowing here today - but you can get an idea. I purposedly quilted it with a large motif: first, I wanted it to be really soft; second, I think it is easier to freemotion quilt a flannel top using a large, overall, design.  The word 'easier' is relative... I usually SITD when quilting flannel projects as I don't want to … [Read more...] about Freemotion flannel quilt

Quilting away…

By Denise Russell

I am quilting a Christmas row quilt for my son Michael and his wife Daniela. It may not be ready for them to take it home when they return to California after Thanksgiving, but I will try. Thinking of decorating for Christmas, the image of tangled up lights came to mind and I could not resist transferring it to the fabric... My son will definitely be able to relate to it. Thanksgiving Day came much too quickly this year. I have an infinite number of blessings to be thankful for and, although I … [Read more...] about Quilting away…

Free motion quilting – how I relax…

By Denise Russell

Panels are the answer to my prayers sometimes. I bought this one in January, knowing my sister would absolutely love it as she really likes the quote it features, attributed to Mark Twain ("Sunny Blossoms" by Debi Hron for SPX Fabrics). It has taken me all this time to work on it as I was not sure I should use the other blocks that came with it, or if I should add pieced blocks of my own. Last Saturday, my heart heavy with useless concern for the future, I was inspired (how else can I put … [Read more...] about Free motion quilting – how I relax…

Sofia’s quilt

By Denise Russell

Lee Anne was six months into her pregnancy when Sofia was born. Sofia and her family spent the next six months at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City until the baby was strong enough to go home. Surgeries, set backs, prayers... Sofia is a tiny miracle girl, and this quilt is for her. This 28.5" x 24" wall hanging also showcases Anni Down's "My Favorite Things" for Henry Glass (see my previous post for the first quilt using same fabric line). I love the subtle hues of blue, pink, … [Read more...] about Sofia’s quilt

Christmas time has been on my mind. I need to take inventory of the gifts I have already made, and who they go to. This year I should add my name to the list! Last year (I think it was last year!) I purchased two of the panels on the left with the intention of making two identical wall hangings: one for me and one for Miriam, my sister. This way, although every Christmas we are thousands of miles apart, we would be "together" when we looked at our wall hangings. Of course, hers was made right … [Read more...] about
