Pattern published on Quilter’s World Magazine
Have you seen this special issue of Quilter's World? Beautiful mug rugs, table runners, wall hangings and bed quilts by very creative designers. However, the highlight for me is that one of my projects is in this magazine! (Photograph by Matthew Owen for Quilter's World) This wall hanging is in chapter 2 - Projects for a Rainy Day - and it is called "Spring is Here!" It is a quick to make project featuring wool applique and embroidery. I quilted around the applique pieces using … [Read more...] about Pattern published on Quilter’s World Magazine
Sunset on my Garden
Here is my latest wall hanging, with bright colors as the backdrop for country-inspired wool applique. At first I wasn't sure the red and yellow half square triangles were going to work out as part of this design, but now I am glad I went ahead with it. Here are some specs: This wall hanging measures 35" x 15". For the wool applique and embroidery I used matching DMC floss. The shapes were fused with HeatnBond Lite (I love this product, and it is the only one I use for applique). I quilted … [Read more...] about Sunset on my Garden
Wool applique and embroidery
This is my sister's Christmas gift for this year. She has two dogs but has fallen in love with cats. Hopefully, she will like this wall hanging. I had no idea what to do for the border. Then, looking through my stash I found this fabric which had all the colors of the applique. Plus, the yellow brightened the piece. I had made the center block a little while ago, but revisited it by changing the color of the cat's facial features, adding borders and quilting it. I did quilt all around the … [Read more...] about Wool applique and embroidery
Wool and Cotton applique
(Photo by Brent Kane for Martingale) I am in love with this quilt featured in My Enchanted Garden: Applique' Quilts in Cotton and Wool by Gretchen Gibbons, published by That Patchwork Place, an imprint of Martingale. I like how Gretchen mixed cotton and wool on each block, which I don't usually do. However, the different textures and patterns contribute to a striking design! Colorful birds appear on almost every block, with cameo appearances by a squirrel, a bear, a dog, a cat … [Read more...] about Wool and Cotton applique
Wool Embroidery Tote
Today I turned a wool applique' block I made last year into a tote. First, I surrounded it with borders using same wool from the applique', then I used its background fabric for the back, bottom, and sides of tote. It measures 19" x 17", with lots of room for books, a tablet, wallet, etc. I framed the center block by couching two strands of colorful yarn. Instead of batting, I used ByAnnie Soft and Stable (I found it here) which gives body to the bag. However, I am not sure you can quilt … [Read more...] about Wool Embroidery Tote
