Are you ready for a fast finish? My Town, the quilt I designed for the Mini Metropolis collection by Figo Fabrics, is a breeze to make! It measures 39″ x 59″, with blocks finishing at 5″. The Mini Metropolis collection features vibrant fabrics with prints that will keep babies and toddlers busy as they hunt for their favorite motifs.

Easy kids quilt

I kept the design simple so our eyes could focus on the prints. The My Town quilt will look great in any nursery: on the bed or crib, or as a throw so the children can carry it everywhere they go.

The novelty fabrics will go well with any decor, too. If you will be making this as a gift, you won’t need to worry if it will go well with the recipient’s room.

Boys or girls will have fun discovering the animals, cars, airplanes, and other ‘toys’ showcased on the prints. I chose to frame the prints with bright colors, adding gray to a few blocks to tone everything down, too.

As you can see, this panel quilt for children is very easy to make. Just make sure that you follow the instructions, sew on a straight line, keep the seam allowances to 1/4″, and you will be good to go!

The panel is so cute! Children can learn about houses, trains, planes, and automobiles (yep, thinking of that famous movie I’ve watched so many times!), the zoo, downtown buildings, etc.

The panel measures 24″ x 44″, but you will trim it to the size needed for the quilt. Of course, you can use this pattern with any panel of the same size, which means you will reuse this pattern over and over again. Yeah!

We all love panels and have many of them in our stash. The thing is, when it comes time to make a quilt with them… what do we do? Which fabrics do we use? You know I design lots of quilts for fabric panels. What you don’t know is, there was a time when I hated designing for panels, let alone making quilts with them. That was more than a decade ago, though.

That is why I try to post here free patterns to help you out, and occasionally a pattern from my own label, which you can find in my Etsy store, PiecedBrain. As for free patterns, click here and here to see some of the ones I posted. You can also search the blog for “panel quilt” to see them all.

My Town is available for wholesale, so send me a message if you are interested in selling it in your quilt store. The Mini Metropolis collection will ship to stores in December, so get the pattern, be ready for the fabrics, and get ahead of the Holiday sewing curve!

If you need backing fabric, Connecting Threads will be running a fantastic Holiday Sale. Starting 11/20, you can take 30% off sitewide, making it the perfect time to stock up on fabric, thread, kits, notions, and gifts for every maker on your list (including you!). Then, starting 11/28–12/1, get 30% off + a free gift with any purchase over $100! (This is an affiliate link. If you purchase anything from Connecting Threads, I will receive a small commission. This does not affect the prices you pay).

Have a fantastic week!
