Free pattern alert! Actually, I have two Blue and White free quilt patterns for you today – anything to make Friday the 13th more fun, right? I designed these two projects for the beautiful Once in a Blue Mood fabric collection by Yolanda Fundora for Blank Quilting.
[Edited: June 14, 2020]
Quilt #1 above measures 45″ x 65″ and the border blocks finish at 5″. They are really the only blocks you need to piece so this project can be completed very quickly. I love this colorway, as you can see from my Teapots wall hanging.
It will look great in traditional or modern home decor, as a wall hanging or as a lap quilt. The easy machine pieced blocks add color, movement, and frame the panel with geometric lines, making the curved lines of the center flowers pop.
Quilt #2 showcases all the other fabrics in this line in a chain design with dragonflies fluttering about on the center of the chains. The border has elongated scallops which are fused and machine appliqued to the border – easy!
In this design, the scallops place the curves on the borders and emphasize the square lines of the quilt center. Fun, huh? That is what happens when I am left alone in my office playing with EQ8, the software I use to design all my quilt patterns.
I loved working with Once in a Blue Mood because the fabrics have the perfect combination of textures and values in order for a quilter to create a project with lots of contrast and interest. Check them out and I am sure you will agree with me:
Such amazing prints! I can envision them being used in other sewing projects, too, such as pillows, totes, dresses, table runners… The list is endless. For a more modern vibe, stay with the geometric prints adding either the floral or the dragonflies here and there.
A two-color quilt can be full of charm when the colors are expertly used on the fabric design as in this collection. Once in a Blue Mood is already shipping to stores so download the patterns, go to your local quilt store, and have a great time sewing one or both these free quilt patterns this weekend.
Maybe, you are in the mood for free quilt patterns that use more colorful fabrics! In that case, check out the Free Patterns tab on this blog where you will have many patterns to choose from.
On another note, I found this on Pinterest and decided to share here. Instead of carrying on your shoulders the mountain of stuff you went through during your lifetime, put them all aside and sew on. With blue and white – like the ocean waves with gentle crests…
Have a fantastic weekend,
