This is my most favorite black and white quilt design to date: It is called Yin and Yang, which I designed for Michael Miller Fabrics super fun fabrics. I called it Yin and Yang because of the contrast between the very geometric lines of the blocks and the floral, free-spirit look of the border fabric. The quilt measures 52" x 62" and the blocks finish at 10". This one-block quilt pattern can be downloaded for free from Michael Miller Fabrics' website: under "Get Inspired", choose Free … [Read more...] about Yin and Yang Quilt – free pattern

Pink Paradise
How would you like to begin your weekend with a free quilt pattern? The cutie above is called Serenade, my newest pattern for Dear Stella, using the Pink Paradise collection. Isn't it beautiful? I love Rae Ritchie's flamingo panel and prints. The quilt measures 41" x 65" and comes together very fast. It is always nice to have panels in our stash for when we need to make a quilt and do not have time for a lot of block piecing. Check out these amazing prints: They are … [Read more...] about Pink Paradise
Oh, Scrap!
Have you seen Lissa Alexander's newest book? It is called Oh, Scrap! and it has just been published by Martingale. All photographs by Brent Kane and Adam Albright for Martingale. Used with permission. As I looked through the book's pages, I kept remembering all the orphan blocks, many-sized … [Read more...] about Oh, Scrap!
Keep Swimming Quilt
My love for batiks is non-ending, so when I saw these Marine Batiks by Michael Miller Fabrics I could not wait to design a quilt with them! The colors and textures of the fabrics are fantastic and I was able to use them to mimic the movement of the waves and the sandy bottom of the ocean. Take a look at some of the fabrics I … [Read more...] about Keep Swimming Quilt

Whenever the applique' motif is large (these hearts measure about 6") I use this technique so I do not have a stiff project afterwards. However, when making wall hangings I am not too concerned about it. In any case, the process is quick and easy - two words we can appreciate when we want to … [Read more...] about Video Tutorial
