This Scrappy Star Quilt is quite a stash buster! It is fat-quarter-friendly, too, so get the pattern and star sewing stars!

My newest quilt, Geo Stars, has just been published in the Spring 2026 issue of Quilter’s World – Precut Quilts Made Easy by Annie’s Attic. The quilt measures 70″ x 70,” and the blocks finish at 20″. The nine blocks come together very fast!

I worked with fat quarters from the Chromatics collection by FreeSpirit Fabrics. I repeated the light blue around the blocks to bring a little harmony to the design, though I used blues from different prints. That color also created a secondary design.
The Chromatics collection has many hues. I chose the brighter fat quarters for this project, saving the other ones for an upcoming quilt. Stay tuned!
The background is from the Lower the Volume collection by Blank Quilting. This collection appears in many of my projects as the motifs are lovely and the colors are very subtle. When I first began making quilts, solid fabrics – white or beige – were always on the block backgrounds, but that was ages ago! I love the texture of low-volume prints now and will use them whenever I can.
The cornerstones and binding added more texture to the quilt. I used the gray from the Chameleon collection by Blank Quilting in both places.

As you can see, you will make flying geese and half-square triangles. That’s it. Geo Stars is a fun project for beginners for this reason. The center of the stars is ideal for showcasing large prints or images from novelty fabrics that might work with the theme of the fabrics: a season, a celebration, etc.
For the fat quarters, I used the 8-at-a-time method. Here is a video showing how easy this method is:
Super easy, right? Eight-at-a-time is my go-to technique when I need to make many half-square triangles from the same fabrics.
Of course, veteran quilters will be happy with this Scrappy Star Quilt pattern because it can be whipped up quickly (oh, the joy of chain-piecing!), and I bet they will make many versions of this quilt, using fat quarters or fabrics from their stash!
The fabrics you choose will determine whether the project has a distinct modern look, such as mine, or a more traditional one. I already have other fabrics selected to repeat this pattern.

You can find Geo Stars, along with other amazing quilt patterns, in the Spring 2026 issue of Quilter’s World “Precut Quilts Made Easy” magazine. Send me an email with photos know when you make your version of Geo Stars!
Before I go, here is another pattern with scrappy stars. I am just trying to help you use all your fabrics so you can replenish your fabric collection!
Have a great week,
