Here are two patterns I designed for the Serenade collection by Gina Matarazzo for Henry Glass Fabrics. The first is Chirping Crew, featuring the panel blocks. It measures 43-1/2″ x 43-1/2″ with 8-1/2″ blocks. The whimsical motifs are complemented by one of the collection prints in the center of the quilt, completing the 3 x 3 layout.

Aren’t the woodland animals cute? I cropped the blocks to ensure they would fit perfectly, avoiding the risk of showing only part of their purple border. We’d rather be safe than sorry, right?
I chose the white from the Modern Melody basics collection by Henry Glass for the sashing so the blocks would pop. Also, I used it in two narrow borders to offset the light/dark blue border set. Why white? To bring light to the project!
You could purchase two panels and make bench pillows with each horizontal row of four blocks, or throw pillows with a set of four blocks.
This quilt is an excellent project for beginners, or a quick one for experienced quilters who are running out of time to make those Christmas gifts!

While We Sleep is the second of the free quilt patterns with animals for the same collection. It measures 48″ x 58″ with blocks finishing at 9″.
The quilt size makes it an ideal throw for a kid’s room. Again, turn a block or two into pillows, and you will have a cool ensemble. Who would not like woodland animals playing musical instruments in the night?

In this design, I worked with the other Serenade prints. I used Off-White from the Folio basics collection by Henry Glass to add light to the quilt and help emphasize the fabrics.
The only thing you will need to make is a bunch of flying geese, four at a time. Not bad, huh? If you are a beginner quilter, this one is also up your alley!
There are many ways to make flying geese, and the method I choose for a quilt pattern depends on the number of units we need to make and whether they are made from the same fabric combination. In this tutorial, I show both the traditional and the No Waste (four-at-a-time used in the quilt above) methods.
We can also make flying geese using the Sew Emma foundation papers, or rulers (make sure they have the needed size), such as the Flying Geese Ruler by Quilt in a Day, the Wing Clipper Quilting Tool, and the Creative Grids Ultimate Flying Geese Tool. There are so many tools out there! (These are affiliate links: if you choose to purchase any of them, I will earn a small commission. The commission does not affect your purchase price!)
I love designing quilts for fabrics showcasing cute animals. If you like them, too, take a look at my pattern In The Woods or this free one, Magic Under the Stars. I bet you have many fabrics in your stash with prints you do not want to cut. Maybe one of these patterns will work with them.
The Serenade collection by Henry Glass is already in stores. Download the patterns, get the fabrics, and get busy – Christmas is less than 10 days away!
