Download these free quilt patterns for harvest time. You can make the quilts now and be ready with brand-new home decor this Autumn!
This is Quilt 1 designed for the Golden Days collection by D. DonFrancisco for Blank Quilting. The fabrics are a fantastic celebration of harvest time, featuring pumpkins, scarecrows, cornhusks, and sunflowers in beautiful fall hues such as rust, green, red, and rich yellow. You can make many projects with this line, but I suggest you begin with this quilt!
This collection is shipping to stores in April – download the patterns, make room on your calendar, and make sure your local quilt store is carrying the entire line so you can purchase it as soon as it arrives.
Quilt 1 measures 56″ x 74″ and the blocks finish at 5″ and 9″. It is a perfect project for beginner quilters, and its main attraction is the panel in the middle with a cool barn and tractor in a cozy scene – this is another way to use panels in a quilt. I like the row-by-row design which you can make in one weekend or one row at a time if you want to spread it out. But make sure it is done by the end of September!
The prints in the Golden Days collection are colorful and have lots of contrast. I mixed them with some fabrics from the Urban Legend collection of basic colors to make them pop and to add even more interest to the project.
Easy blocks provide a canvas to display our favorite prints, and when designing a quilt I keep that in mind. I work with EQ8, so it is easy to audition fabrics as I select each block. I do make a few designs before the ‘winners’ are chosen. It is a cool exercise that would not work well and be as efficient if I were to design everything by hand.

I love the leafy background of this block. This print comes in two colors and you can see its other iteration on the blocks below. Those pumpkins are so cute! This block is super simple to make and that is the most difficult thing you will do when making this quilt – half square triangles. Easy.
Here, also, the block was chosen with the purpose of showing off the beauty of the print. You noticed the theme on my work, right? After all, slicing and dicing fabrics have their place…
Ah… but I mentioned free quilt patterns for harvest and here is the second one. Quilt 2 measures 61″ x 76″ and the blocks finish at 12″, 3″ x 12″, 3″ including the blocks in the sashing. In fact, the sashing reminds me of ribbons around picture frames. The panel blocks feature Autumn motifs – they would look awesome in projects for the kitchen such as table runners, placemats, and table toppers, too.
The border fabric is super fun with all those scarecrows so I had to use it on this quilt. I think this has become my favorite Autumn quilt design!
Quilt 2 is also fast to make. The borders use mitered corners and the instructions will walk you through its construction so you can have it finished in no time at all.
I alternated the fabrics on the block frames to add dimension to the design and to better showcase the motifs. That is all you will need to do with them – add simple strips as borders to each one.
So, there you have it: two free patterns to get your house ready for Fall (at this rate, it will be here soon enough!!!). They also make awesome gifts for family and friends.
