The temperature is down to the single digits here… We had such very short Autumn! I barely had a chance to enjoy my fall color quilts and it was time to change to winter ones. As I was choosing the projects I was going to display around the house I found “Eye Candy”, a small wall hanging I don’t think I showed you.
It measures 19″ x 17.5″, featuring batiks (except on the white flowers) and machine applique’ using blanket stitch with Aurifil 40 and 12 wt threads (Their threads add such gorgeous texture to the applique’ work!). As you can see, I like heavily quilting wall hangings…
This design was dancing in my brain for a few weeks until it finally made its way onto fabric. It was fun going through my stash of batiks to select just the right colors and prints. This design is ‘scheduled’ to be turned into a pattern very soon.
Looking at it made me forget about the cold weather… and wish I could run to my studio and start sewing. No chance as I have lots of work to do (and maybe some shopping as I did not have a chance to check out Cyber ‘Monday’ sales. I’ve got to stop by Fat Quarter Shop‘s site because I know they are having 20% off all precuts. Yeah!).
In the meantime, come back on Friday for a very fun Blog Hop with a fabric prize!
Enjoy today,
Denise, this is GORGEOUS!! I love it! I hadn't thought about using 12 wt thread on my machine applique–I like the effect. Thanks for sharing!
It's stunning!
Wow! The quilting complements the applique so well.
Isn't it gorgeous, the perfect antidote to wet and windy weather 🙂
I adore batiks and am always surprised how quickly quilters will "poo-poo" the use of them. Your quilt is lovely!
