I am getting ready to go visit my mom in Brazil and wanted to leave you with a few ideas for projects – you know, someone has got to be quilting if I can’t!
The first quilt I wanted to show you is Quilt 2 that I designed for the Bloom Bouquet II fabric collection by Blank Quilting. This collection is bright, fun, and will be coming to stores in September. The quilt measures 65” x 74″ and the blocks finish at 6″. If you are looking for a super-fast project, this is it!
Yes, this is also a perfect beginner quilter project, a stash buster if you can’t wait until the collection is out, and a cool project for the fat quarter bundles you have in your studio.
Use the Stitch and Flip method for all the blocks, and the stars come together in a cool way using the sashing and cornerstones. Must make, in my opinion!
I designed another quilt for this collection for when you are in the mood to work with floral panels as blocks. Quilt 1 measures 58″ x 70″ and the blocks finish at 10-1/2″. They are also easy to make, and I love the idea of making the floral blocks pop with the dark pink fabric as shadows. Don’t you?
The chain design here reminds me of a trellis in the garden, a perfect way to bring the outdoors in. I used the same border fabric as in Quilt 2 because it has lots of vases with flowers and a dark background, which framed everything very well.
As you can see, there is nothing complicated about the heart chain blocks. I like the modified star look it has, too. Using the Stitch and Flip method on this block, the quilt will be done in no time at all. This is a plus when you are trying to get ahead on your Christmas gift list.
Speaking of Free Quilt Patterns to Brighten your Summer, here are two more projects to add to your To-Do list:
Daisy Talk is another fabric collection by Blank Quilting, and this one will be coming in December. Quilt 1 measures 66″ x 80″ and block size is 12″. I love the prints in this collection, yet this design would look awesome made with all the scraps in your stash.
You will make this block in a different way than you first think when you look at it, so go download the pattern and read the instructions for you to see.
This is one of the great things about quilting: there is always some new method to try, a new cutting technique with great results, and many beautiful fabrics to play with while we sew. The results are heirlooms that family and friends will treasure forever!
Do you see the theme here? Fast and easy! Quilt 2 measures 70″ x 82″ and the block size: is 6″. Two blocks and lots of fun colors for a design that turns any room into a cheerful hangout place. I like the stripes on the narrow border and I made sure they appeared on both designs.
So, which one will you make first? Don’t forget to send me photos of the quilts so I can post them here. Oh, yes, always check the Free Patterns tab on this blog for new additions. Bear in mind that, sometimes, fabric makers remove older designs from their Free Projects tab, but sometimes we can get you a copy of something you really like.
Stay cool and sew a bunch!
