We all love fabric panels but often do not know how to put borders on them. Missing You: a quilted greeting card with hearts is my latest panel quilt and I think you will love it!

“Missing You” was just published in the Summer 2020 issue of Quilter’s World magazine. It measures 40″ x 60″ and the blocks finish at 5″. The panel is from the You Make My Heart Happy collection by Gail Cadden for Timeless Treasures. The fabrics in this collection are so beautiful!
No, greeting cards are not a thing of the past and people still enjoy getting them. If you want to ‘kick it up a notch’ as Emeril Lagasse used to say in his cooking show, make it with fabric and as a quilt. At 40″ x 60″, “Missing You” is perfect as a wall hanging or as a lap quilt and it will last longer than a paper card.
I wished to convey lots of love with this design but did not actually want to add words to the design as they were already on this fabric. So… look again at the quilt above and see what I did! The left and bottom wide borders form the letter L for Love – cool, huh?
Then, I added the hearts to finish up the border. I do like to put hearts on my quilts and the In My Heart quilt is a good example of it. Pieced or appliqued, they are fast to make and show off well our favorite fabrics, such as these:
Oh… awesome prints with red, black, and white which are really hard to find! Use them with white all around so they will shine.
I have very few red, black, and white fabrics in my stash. They are mostly novelty fabrics, not as delicate as the prints above. They can be used in tiny bits or liberally as I did in Missing You: a quilted greeting card with hearts.
In fact, I liked this collection so much that I could not stand leaving the scraps alone – I made a small table runner with them. The blocks are 16″ and the runner will also look great as a skinny wall hanging. Check it out:
I have not had time to quilt it, though, and will do so as soon as I am done making and selling masks (if you visit my Etsy store you will understand how come I’ve been dreaming of masks!). When I do quilt it, I will decide if it will remain a runner or will hang on a wall. If the latter, I will add a hanging sleeve to it.
The fabrics with Dots are a must, right? I am glad Gail Cadden included them in this group. I have been collecting scraps of fabrics with dots and will make a quilt with them someday. I hope. I suppose just collecting them can be a sort of comfort, right? Ai, ai, ai…
You can find the quilt pattern for “Missing You” on page 16 of the Summer 2020 issue of Quilter’s World magazine. If you can’t wait until you find the magazine in stores, you can download it. There are so many fun projects to keep you busy!
To all of my friends whom I haven’t seen in two months, I am Missing You!
Have a fantastic Monday,
Your quilt is adorable! The letter L, the hearts and the quilting all complement the panel.
Thank you! It is a fun quilt!
