I am ahead of the game! “Sassy”, the white daisy quilt is my new bedspread and I could not be happier. My husband had to be assured that we would get it back before Spring came around because he could not wait to see it on our bed.
“Sassy” measures 76″ x 89-1/2″ and the blocks finish at 12″. I used the Fresh as a Daisy collection by Maywood Studio and love how it turned out. The colors and textures of these fabrics are amazing…
The blocks are very easy to make so I am sure that once you begin the project, you won’t stop until it is done. After all, soon you will have Spring flowers to plant and there will be no incentive to stay indoors working on the fabric kind!
I have made many floral quilts and here are two examples: the Floral Tiles quilt has flowers on the fabrics and as applique’ motifs, and Raining Flowers has them everywhere! Yet, Sassy is my new favorite floral quilt!
Melissa Kelly from Sew Shabby Quilting quilted it with the Interlocking Loop design and it added even more texture to the project. Melissa and I work so well together: I drop my quilts there and she figures out which motif will complement my quilt design.
White daisy everywhere is what I remember from one of the houses we lived in rural Brazil when I was about 10 years old. My mom had planted them on both sides of the walkway from the front door to the gate of our house, and they seemed to bloom forever in that hot weather. Who knew that someday I would have a white daisy quilt as my new bedspread…
Sassy will complement any home decor, from the modern to the traditional, but I am thinking it would also be a perfect accent to a farm-style home.
Aren’t these fabrics fantastic? I have the quilt next to me as I am writing, which is a good thing because of the monochromatic palette of the street, the cloudy sky, and the prospect of more snow.
I will ensure my spirits stay high by spreading this quilt on the family room for now, and by spending the day in my studio working on test blocks and beginning another floral quilt, this time for Fall!
You can find Sassy and other great patterns and articles in the March issue of the American Quilter magazine which will hit the stands on February 11. Of course, if you are a subscriber like me, you will get it way before then. How about that quilt on the cover?!?
Have a productive day,
