I designed two quilts for the Gypsy Dreams fabric collection by Ani Del Sol for Blank Quilting. Quilt #1, above, uses the blocks in the panel and measures 60″ x 84″. The blocks finish at 12″ and feature beautiful motifs.
The borders repeat the colors in the panel blocks with geometric blocks. I do like to mix curved and straight lines in the quilts I create. Mixed with the prints, they add even more texture to the project.
The fabrics in this collection are so beautiful! Check them out:
Everything in this border spells ‘dancing’ to me, from the alternating design of the strips to the paisley, swirly stems, and dress-like flower blooms.
Ani’s choice of vibrant colors and the movement in her designs make me want to be outdoors. I absolutely love this fabric collection: butterflies and dragonflies – heaven in wings! It is coming to stores in September – I hope your local quilt store will carry it but you can always find it online.
Do you need a pop of color in one of your rooms? These prints would look great on pillows, table toppers, and placemats (particularly the panel blocks – each placemat would feature one). Or, showcase your favorite prints from this collection in a simple wall hanging such as this one I made.
This is Quilt #2. The blocks are easy to put together and the whole quilt seems to scream “Let’s celebrate something!” The blocks finish at 12″ and the quilt measures 57″ x 69″, a fun lap quilt that will never go out of style.
The alternate blocks are ideal to showcase favorite prints. This is a tip for when you are working with large prints: choose blocks that are large, or have large patches where you can place them. Then, use the smaller prints or fabrics that read like solid for the smaller patches.
As for the star blocks, notice how I chose a busy print for the background. Then, I brought out two of the print colors for the star and the pinwheel, making sure the eyes had a resting place amidst the awesomeness of that dragonfly fabric. The stars are meant to be bright, so the pink worked very well, I think.
Lap quilts are very versatile. I often fold them in place them on the back of the couch in the family room, ready for anyone who wants to snuggle with them, or fold them lengthwise and place them at the foot of one of our beds. But, with these free patchwork patterns, you can make smaller projects such as table runners. I am thinking they would make great skirts and dresses for girls…
These 2 free patchwork patterns with the Gypsy Dreams fabrics can be downloaded from Blank Quilting‘s site and are under the Free Projects tab. What are you waiting for?
Have an awesome day,
