Free pattern alert!!! Download this free quilt pattern with geometric blocks and begin choosing your favorite solid colors or prints because this is a stash-buster project!
This is Engaged, the quilt I designed for the Timeless Treasures Mix Basic collection. It measures 64″ x 76″ and the blocks finish at 12″. It looks very complicated but it is so easy to make! The instructions are simple and straight forward so you will get this quilt done very quickly.
The Mix Basic Collection has 54 beautiful, rich colors with an amazing texture – perfect on their own as you see on my quilt, or as a complement to other prints. I like its linen look.
I love designs that look more complex than they really are. As you choose fabrics to make this quilt, remember that the key to a successful version of Engaged is to have fabrics that contrast very well from their mates. It really does not matter if you use solids or prints. However, I would tend to use smaller prints on the interlocking
Each block showcases three colors. I chose the name ‘Engaged’ because of the block’s elements and used many colors to convey how we are engaged with others in many ways, at so many levels… I am thinking it would make an awesome wedding gift, a cool friendship quilt (if you make the backgrounds light you can sign the center), or a piece of wall art if you make it smaller.
As you can see from the diagram above, you will be working with squares, half-square triangles, and rectangles. That’s it. Yes, you can further simplify this block – I am sure you are already seeing it – but, either way, it will be a quick make.
Speaking of simplifying blocks, did you ever wonder why a designer wrote the instructions in one way and not the other? Believe it or not, sometimes due to a heavy workload or a distraction, we can only see one way to build a block. Later, we go ‘duh’!
You can download this free quilt pattern with geometric blocks from Timeless Treasures by going to the Projects tab where you will see other patterns featuring their gorgeous fabrics. Find the Mix Basic collection at your local quilt store, or ask them to get it from Timeless Treasures. If you can’t find it there – sometimes fabric makers choose to remove patterns from the site – let me know as I may be able to get it for you.
