Happy [snowy] Wednesday! Let’s rock this day with a free quilt pattern for the beginner quilter (the blizzard is so crazy my high schooler HAS to stay in bed)! JotDot Quilt 1 finishes at 72″ x 84″ and the blocks measure 12″. It will brighten any room in your home with its charm and colorful palette.
I love the textures of this collection – perfect on their own as in the quilt above, or as basics with other fabrics. JotDot Quilt 1 makes all the colors shine through the rings, except… you can make this quilt in one day! Read on to find out how!
Blank Quilting featured the JotDot Quilt 1 in their booth at Quilt Market in Houston last November. It turned out so fun! These bright colors look great in any home decor: if you like a modern vibe or if your home has a more traditional style but you need a splash of color to make a corner pop.
These are a few of the JotDot colors I am working with – a very secret project! There are 15 different hues making this collection a “must-have” in your stash.
I love having basic fabrics with lots of texture on hand. The tone-on-tone feature brings more depth to my blocks and interest to the quilt design. Notice how I made sure to choose contrasting colors: the off-white for the center blocks which does not clash with the beautiful hues, and purple against the gray on the border blocks.
What is the trick for the ‘one-day’ construction promise I made above? You must download the pattern and see what I mean!
Yes, you can make this quilt in one day because the rings are fused to the background blocks and machine appliqued using the blanket stitch, or your favorite stitch. Super simple and fast! Here are the straightfoward steps to make this free quilt pattern for the beginner quilter: cut the background squares, trace the ring shapes onto fusible web, cut and fuse to the fabrics, fuse them to the background block, and machine applique’!
Another plus about this method: no curved sewing…
The JotDot fabric collection by Blank Quilting is shipping to the stores right now. Head to your favorite shop to get it, download this free quilt pattern for beginner quilters, and save one day for this project so you can welcome Spring with style.
If you would like another fun pattern for beginners, check out my In My Heart Baby Quilt. This one you can make in one afternoon, quilt it and gift it the next day! You can download the pattern from Annie’s Online Catalog.
I can’t see the houses across the street because snow and wind are doing their dance. As for me, I will spend the day in my quilt room with these gorgeous, bright, and colorful JotDots!

Donna, I always use Heat'nBond Light. There are other products but this one has always worked well for me.
