Fall Beauty Quilt

By Denise Russell

Today I am celebrating Fall and the fact that my quilt, Fall Beauty, made it to the cover of the October 2018 American Patchwork & Quilting magazine! What an honor!

Photographs by Adam Albright for American Patchwork & Quilting. Used with permission.

Fall Beauty is colorful, whimsical, full of texture and… it is big! It measures 87-3/4″ x 104″ and the blocks finish at 16-1/4″. Melissa Kelly from Sew Shabby Quilting added the crop circles quilting motif which went so well with the theme of the project.

Doesn’t the alternate block remind you of the head of a scarecrow? The instructions are clear and have lots of diagrams – you will put Fall Beauty together in no time at all.

I chose Timeless Treasures‘ Venice Basics fabric collection because the colors were vibrant and the texture was perfect:

This collection had the Fall palette I was looking for as I wanted the design to invoke hayrides, pumpkins, leaves of every color, broomsticks…

Here is the color option presented by tester Martha Gamm, using Riley Blake Designs‘ fabrics for a vintage look. Pretty cool, huh? This pattern has lots of possibilities so, if you like it, get the magazine and start having fun.

Enjoy your Monday – mine is already fantastic!

How exciting to earn cover honors! Beautiful quilt, makes you want to just snuggle under it while crisp autumn air whirls around. Also love what the quilting does for that gorgeous fabric! Congratulations.

Hi Denise – I just received my AP&Q magazine with your beautiful quilt on the cover. I have been looking for a fall/autumn quilt to make and this is it. I found the Timeless Treasures Venice Marbled Paper fabric, but some of the colors have different shades. Before I hit purchase, could you verify that I have the correct colors as shown on your quilt? I have Sun, Red, Sand, Lime, Charcoal (also used on the binding?), Orange and Fire. They look like they match perfectly but I sure would appreciate a confirmation. Thank You!
