Clementine Quilt Along

By Denise Russell

Photo by Fat Quarter Shop. Used with permission.

I am so glad to be joining the Clementine Quilt Along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop! This is month one and we are making the Watermelon Wheel Block. I chose to make my quilt with the same fabrics as the ones shown above: Mama’s Cottage by April Rosenthal for Moda Fabrics so I received the quilt kit and the matching backing set also. I am stoked as the fabrics are gorgeous!

Here is another reason why I am so excited to be participating: Fat Quarter Shop and Moda Fabrics are benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with this year’s quilt along. They are asking for a small donation in exchange for downloading each month’s pattern, and Fat Quarter Shop and Moda will match up to $20,000 of our donation. What a wonderful opportunity to help!
For this month’s block, we are working with these fat quarters plus the white background fabric.
Although the block is formed by many pieces, I was able to chain piece every step of it. Oh, yeah.
I am in love with this yellow fabric. This is one-fourth of the large block. Note: I pin at every step of a block’s construction. However, I did not pin anything until it was time to join the top and the bottom parts of the block above. Seriously. The diagonal flying geese seams just fit at the right spot next to the squares.
This is the multi-color block all put together.
This is the smaller one.
And here are mother and son together!
If you would like to join us, you can find the full fabric requirements and all the patterns and videos posted so far on Fat Quarter Shop’s Clementine Quilt Along page.
Before you go, check out the new patterns I uploaded here and to Quilterly, my Etsy store. I will write this week with more details about them.
Have a wonderful Monday!

Those look so pretty and the points are spot on in each one.

I know, and I really did not have to pin the points! Unbelievable!

I love all of those colors, but that teal is gorgeous!
