I’ve designed two patterns for the Goalbound collection by Urban Essence Designs for Blank Quilting. The first is Back of the Net, using the panel blocks. It measures 44¾” x 44¾”, and the blocks finish at 9¾”. I chose simple alternate blocks to showcase more of the fabrics and continue with the theme. I like how it turned out!
I love soccer and welcomed the opportunity to design for this collection. Not that I can play now – a broken right foot qualifies me for the bleachers, only. I hope I can at least jump with both feet to celebrate when goals are scored. But that is a few months down the road and into recovery. But I digress.

Choose and cut out five of the panel blocks to the size listed in the pattern. You could make a pillow with the remaining block. Then, piece four blocks and alternate them in a 3 x 3 grid.

I opted for simple alternating blocks to keep your eyes focused on the ball! The print with the balls hitting the net was perfect because the panel blocks show the ball in motion. With this fabric, we complete the play! The grass on the triangles and the T-shirts lend the contrast I needed in the design.
The straight borders feature two more prints from the collection. The white sashing and narrow borders add light to the design and provide a rest for the eyes, just as the 15-minute halftime break gives players a break from all the running around.

The second quilt I designed is the Score Throw, which measures 51″ x 62″ with 10″ blocks. This time, the ‘balls’ are pieced, and the framed blocks bring the players, male and female, onto the field.
I could not help myself – the graduated border created a ‘bleachers’ effect. I was really into the game.

This free pattern is also perfect for beginners – stitch and flip the corners to make the balls, sew on a straight line to frame the fields with white and green. That’s it.
The collection will be in stores in March, so you have plenty of time to plan your quilting schedule and be ready for the games. Any one of these 2 Free Soccer Quilt Patterns is sure to make your soccer fans happy and add fun to the party!

If balls are your favorite theme, check out Play Ball, the quilt I designed and made using jelly rolls. You can find the pattern in my Etsy store, PiecedBrain. You may go through your stash and find fabrics for the balls that represent the sport you like – oranges and reds for basketballs, white and reds for baseball, yellow for tennis, etc. Then, show me what you make!
I hope you enjoyed these free quilt patterns. Have a fun sewing week!
